by Carla.Razenb

This year we go from Rotterdam to Dusseldorf ( DB is much cheaper than NS) by car. Then we go (Ronald and Carla with our new old Suzuki) on the sleeptrain to Villach Austria. Then from Villach to Tarvisio Italy. From Tarvisio cross the border to Slovenia. No hills or tunnels there!!! Warning!! Watch your speed everywhere!!!!!!!We've got a ticket for 50 DM for 20km driving to fast in Austria!!!! Nice start for your vacation!! Welcome in Austria!! Thanks!Public transport is very good in Slovenia but if you want to see more, then I prefer a car! Also Adria airways is flying from Amsterdam Schiphol to Airport Brnik Ljubljana.

Buses are better way to travel in Slovenia

by 80-bettyboo

For xemaple it better to get a bus from Ljubljana to Lake BLED by bus since the train station is situated on the north-west oh the lake, need to wait for bus to go to center, which takes ages and I was about to freeze while I was waiting for the bus and ended up hitchhing.

New Ryanair service to Klagenfurt

by Pete_Barnett

Since June 2002, Ryanair have been flying daily from London Stansted to Klagenfurt in Austria. This is within half an hours drive to Slovenia over the Ljublelj pass. You can also get a regular train through to Ljubljana.Prices vary according to when you book - on average about 20 Euro each way plus taxes - and I have heard that standby seats have been offered for just 2 Euro each way plus taxes!!

Driving is an option

by sumit_b

Reservations for a rental car can be made online. Cars are a convenient way to get around the country, albeit not the cheapest. Slovenia is in the process of building motorways, but the construction work won't get in your way. Take some cash for the toll booths.

by cheekymarieh

Rail - good connections to and from Italy and Austria. We arrived in the country by rail from Salzburg and found a train to Venice without any problems. There is also a good internal rail system. It is relatively cheap when compared to UK prices. A trip from Ljubljana to Bled costs around £1.50 these days.

This time I'm flying to Trieste with Ryanair and taking a bus to Piran. Last time though, we took in Slovenia as part of a tour of Europe. Germany, Czech republic, Austria, Slovina and Italy. At the time we travelled by car and had no difficulties. Mind you, I wasn't the driver!

by Sadjevec

All the bus drivers I saw spoke English except for one. All I did was write where I wanted to go on paper, don't worry they will understand and they won't rip you off for being a foreigner.I forgot some change once and the driver called me back to give it to me! This is the best place to hear Slovenian music, they often have the local radio on.You'll hear stuff from pop to polkas. If you want English language music, go to any bar!

by Amadej

You may eventually fly in directly to Airport Brnik but any other large enough meadow will do as well. What a question? On foot, of course. May be by bicycle (if you are a poor girl or boy in hurry). Do you know any better way of getting around having quality of life in mind not mere speed of physical motion?

by AleksanderA

Except for long journeys, bus is the preferred way of getting around Slovenia. There are frequent departures and the network has an octopus' reach across the country. In some cases, there's no choice; travelling by bus is the only practical way to get to Bled and Bohinj, the Julian Alps and much of the coast from Ljubljana. You might need to make a reservation on Friday afternoons, when many students leave Ljubljana for the weekend. With the exception of the new ICS express train between Ljubljana and Maribor, travel by rail is best left to sightseers: one of the prettiest rides chugs through the Soca Valley.Driving a car can be a good way to get to some of the most beautiful and isolated towns and villages in Slovenia, and rental prices are reasonable. Rental agencies at Brnik Airport and in Ljubljana have the most competitive rates. The country's tolls and petrol prices are relatively...
