During the daytime, the buses...

by anaiis

During the daytime, the buses are usually frequent. But late in the evening and during the night things change. Slovenia is a quiet country with nothing special going on during the night. The capitol Ljubljana is also very sleepy and gets tired soon. The city buses dont drive in Ljubljana during midnight and three a.m. so you will depend on taxi during this time. Since other towns are small, make sure they have city buses before you rely on them. Sometimes its easier to travel by train, but many routes were shut down in comunism (but also built) so you have to ask in advance when and if the train goes where you are headded.

Slovenia is building highways. So please, be patient. Dont take any risks with too upset nerves. Take a brake, dont hurry anywhere. There is usually no waiting, unless Fridays out from Ljubljana and Sundays towards Ljubljana.

by Kupid008

Slovenia's national airline, Adria Airways, has nonstop flights between Ljubljana's Brnik airport and practically every major city in Europe, as well as from Tel Aviv. There's a departure tax of US$11 for passengers leaving by air, which is usually included in the ticket price.Buses travel between Slovenia and Italy daily, using Nova Gorica in Slovenia as the easiest exit and entry point. Koper also has good bus connections with Italy:Ssome 17 buses a day go to and from Trieste, 21km (13mi) to the northeast. It's also easy to travel by bus to and from Hungary, Croatia, Austria and Yugoslavia. The main train routes into Slovenia come from Salzburg (4-5 hrs away), Trieste (3 hrs), Vienna (6 hrs) and Zagreb (2-3 hrs) in Croatia. Trains between Amsterdam and Ljubljana take 18 hours. There are dozens of international border crossings if travelling by car, motorcycle, bicycle or even on...

Travel by train in Slovenia is very cheap but not so fast; Rail corridors cross Slovenia: London-Istanbul-Tehran, Amsterdam-Hamburg-Zagreb, Lyon-Milan-Trieste-Ljubljana. The second best choice is the car you can use the expressways. In general the connection in Slovenia are very good. This web page will help you: slovenia touristThere is no way to get around Slovenia. If you are in the area you must visit it.

By airplane or from major cities in nearby countries - by train. By bus or train. Train is a bit more cheaper and more comfortable. But in north - east part of Slovenia there is no train!!!You can also travel by bike or motorcycle. In that way you'll see a lot of country!

by JeanCooke

When in a pinch, HITCH-HIKING is an option. Slovenia is relatively safe place to hitch-hike and is an accepted way to get around. But, just in case, I took a picture of the car and license plate before we got in.

Adria Airlines is Slovenia's airline. Service and food were both very good. Ljubljana Airport is quite small and you get out on a ramp on the tarmac.Pictured: Koper train station.Trains, buses and taxis abound and can get you almost anywhere in Slovenia with minimal cost. Trains are smoother with less stops. I prefer the train over buses.

by muscatton

If you have somebody to pick you up, and if you are coming from the west, then the best way is to meet in Trieste and cross the border by car. It does not take long. Otherwise, it is best to get to Ljubljana.

by oja

You can fly from most European capitals and land on our only international airport Brnik (20 km north of Ljubljana). If you choose a train, there are daily connections to Ljubljana from Munich (6.30 and 23.30, arriving in 6 hours), Vienna (6 hours), Venice (4 hours), Budapest (about 8 hours) and Zagreb (about 3 hours). Buses leave from these destinations too.Bus and train network is well developed. Local trains are slow but cheap. For more comfort, take an Intercity (running to Murska Sobota, Jesenice or Koper) or an even more hi-tech ICS which needs a third less time than an ordinary train to get from point A to point B (so far just from Ljubljana to Maribor).Click here for train schedules and similar info provided by our national railways.

by joecooper

Take a train from any direction, you are guaranteed wonderful views - from Austria you have the Alps, from Italy the Mediterranian. From Italy you can also get a catamaran from Venice although I am unsure how much it costs.Trains are cheap and pretty good although not 100% reliable or regular. Rail comapy website: Slovenske Zeleznice Buses are infact modern coaches, very comfortable, regular and routes cover the most isolated areas, although trains are a cheaper option. Taxi's are very cheap in Slovenia so use them for journeys when there is no bus or train, or when you don't want to wait for one to arrive!
