    Take the Bus

by blaird Written Jan 23, 2003

We were in Ljubljana one night and decided we would try to get to Triglav by early the next morning. Really, to us, the only good way was to take the bus. We took a late night bus and got dropped off in Ribcev Laz...It was dark, very dark, but these towns are all small, so it shouldn't be too big a deal to find your lodging.

There are bus stops all around the Lake Bohinj area...Ribcev laz, Stara Fuzina, and Ukanc. Taking the bus to any of these cities is a great way to get within walking distance to the entrance to the park.

    Use your feet

If coming into the park the way we came in, at the time of year we did, really the only way to get around is on foot. We were there for hiking, so that is what we did.

From Ukanc, we walked past Hotel Zlatorog, over the bridge, and on the trail into the mountains. You'll pass by a few pensions at the beginning of the trail.

    Fiacre...

Although I would suggest walking to the entrance of Vintgar Gorge, but you can also take a fiacre reaching there from this small town called Podhom.
The photo shows the fiacre as it taking a rest, the horse & the rider.
This area is gearing for tourists so we can see some sights like this for the people who would want to experience some kind of luxury & convenience maybe.

Get your car on the train

If you need to get from Lake Bohinj towards the Soca river valley, you can take the train from Bohinjska Bistrica. The train goes through a 6 km tunnel and saves you a huge detour. If you have your car with you, you can load it to the train. You can just get off at the first stop of Podbrdo and drive in the narrow roads, between the villages of the valley. It's a beautiful drive, but a little tiring as the road is narrow and winding.

    By Walking...

If you want to walk to reach Vintgar Gorge, here's the direction :

HEAD NORTH-WEST ON PRESERNOVA CESTA THEN NORTH ON PARTIZANSKA CESTA TO CESTA V VINTGAR.
YOU WILL ARRIVE IN A SMALL VILLAGE CALLED PODHOM.
FROM HERE, YOU CAM ALWAYS SEE THE SIGNS TO VINTGAR GORGE. RIGHT TO THE GORGE'S ENTRANCE.

Follow the directions to see this scenery !
