Animals

by GalaxyTrevel

Tourists entering the Republic of Slovenia for vacations or visits bringing house pets not intended for sale must present:Dogs and cats:a certified international health booklet for dogs and cats with a date entered of a rabies vaccination if the animal is more than four months old. The vaccination must have been received less than twelve months and more than fourteen days before entering Slovenia. The booklet must also contain a veterinarian's certified statement not more than ten days old that the animal is healthy.

THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR......

by eden_teuling

Slovenia has some 2,000,000 inhabitants and no more than a 1000 are imprisoned!Crime rates are so low......During your holidays you can relaxe without having to keep an eye on your car, bag, rucksack constantly!I felt so safe there.....everyone was quiet and friendly, bubbling with life and enjoying life.... no time for crime! Even whenever you would leave your car key in the door or even the ignition, nothing nasty will happen..You don't have to examine your bills in hotels and restaurants.....The only place where it is wise to be vigilant is at the Slovene Riviera where pickpockets will give it a try, so you are warned.......In Slovenia MET is the TIME with the same daylight saving time and is the same as e.g. in The Netherlands and Belgium!

mineral water Donat Mg

by anaiis

See this label? If you suffer from constipation (and while travelling this can easily happen, too), this might be the answer to your problem. Works fast, sometimes in minutes so stay close to the facilities you might need after it happens. If you are just fine, try not to drink too much of this mineral water. There were a lot of foreigners complaining to me after they got this water for free as samples, they were not aware of its effects and drank it too much. However, a glass or two might be very helpful to your body and health. Its great for your stomach, too, it can calm burning pain in it (or buy Rupurut tablets in farmacy). This water comes from Rogaska Slatina, known by this healing water since ancient times. Some more info:http://www.rr-vel.si/it/terme-rogaska/

Closure of the Ljubelj pass for repairs.

by Pete_Barnett

I was recently told that the Ljublelj (Loibl) pass between Austria and Slovenia will be closed for a couple of months over the winter of 2002/3 for repairs. Maybe it is wise to check before travelling through this route. The alternative would seem to be the Karawanke tunnel.

The Correct Clothing

by Carnation

Some sound advice The temperature inside the caves is a constant 11c and can feel quite chilly after spending over an hour down below, so it is advisable to take along with you a jacket, cardigan or sweatshirt. Sturdy shoes are needed as pathways inside the caves are wet, slippery and at times quite bumby and uneven.

Wow! What A Beautiful Flower/Mushroom/Animal!

by anaiis

Please, keep the nature intact. Do not pick up flowers. Do not destroy mushrooms, even if you know they are poisonous! They are important part of nature balance. Do not yell in forrests, pick up your trash. Leave the place the same as it was before you stopped there. Do not follow the temptation to leave everything what you have used and brought here in the mountains - it has to get down also! Even if there is the mountain cottage - try to take the trash with you.

Carefully With Those Cows!

by anaiis

Look at those cows approaching, they are all headed in my direction (and I am not happy about it, see?). They started to be more courrageous lately. So beware. Also do not touch the wire that surrounds them - if you don't want to receive a small electric shock. Sometimes meeting cows can be a problem for hikers and bykers. Do not run, just walk a bit faster. If meeting them in close range is unavoidable, stop and yell at them. They will stop for a moment - use this moment to get outside their reach. Slovenia was also hit by BSE, but we controll our meat very strictly. We are very carnivorous society that's why its not quite simple to be vegetarian here and I would love to be one, IF ... If the sausages weren't so great here in Slovenia, for example...

by anaiis

Watching the Alps carries a potential risk. You could wish you would live here, under them. But its not that simple. To be initiated in our culture, you also have to climb on top of them. Otherwise, you are not accepted. If you havent been on Triglav at least, you are not one of us.

Pack enough water with you....

by Janyka

Pack enough water with you. The only place you can find drinking water is cottage. There are suppose to be prameny but you would hardly see dripping the water there during summer. Do not forget that you are in the mountains. It could cost you your live! There are many gravestones to remind you of. The weather is very, changeable and from the begging a lovely day for hiking can turn into terrible experience. Be aware of falling stones! Read properly information about the right time to make your hike. We didn’t and two of my friends still have nightmares about thunderstorms. We took a hike to the highest pick of Slovenia, Triglav 2864 m above the sea level, which is said to be a magnet for thunderstorms. There is hardly anything else above 1800 m above a sea level then rocks with steal ropes and some wild flowers. If the thunderstorm comes, get yourself as far from the ropes as you can,...

Q:  My husband and I are planning two nights in July - is it better to base ourselves In Bled or Bohinj, or do one night in each?

A: Personally I liked Bohinj more mainly because it's more remote & natural. You can wander through the woods and discover Slap Savica, by crossing wooden bridges, climbing...
