What shall we have next? by blissgirl In Almeria, as well as in the rest of Andalucia, it is custom to give small plates of free food with the drinks. You get TAPAS ONLY with a beer (caña or tubo) wine (tinto, blanco, tinto de verano) as well as with grapejuice (mosto). There will be a list of TAPAS, either on the table, or chalked up behind the bar, or the waiter will rattle off 100 items in about 20sec when you ask him "Qué hay de tapas?" (whats for tapas?). Many items are suitable for Vegetarians, as long as they dont mind eggs fried on burger griddles and fishy spoons used to dish up the salad.
Vegetarian options: -Patatas Bravas -Tabernero con Patatas fritas -huevo a la plancha -patatas alioli -cheringans (de queso, vegetal, aceitetomate) -patata al horno .........ask for more, but beware, "vegetarian" in andalucia often includes tuna, ham or prawns. INSIST! if they don´t do tapas, go somewhere else. It´s an important part of culture, and greed is destroying it...

The restaurant is built in a cave, the setting is unique and they have a huge and very impressive wine cellar, where you can walk through. Chique.

by muzzgilden In Almeria town there isn't a great variety of Restaurants as such because there is such a wide offer of 'Tapas Bars' or Tabernas that offer local gastronomy at very reasonable prices. Do not confuse Tapas with 'raciones' as the Tapa is an individual snack which is offered with your drink (mainly beer or wine)for free. The 'Raciones' are dishes to share which in some cases can be pricey specially if sea-food. Always ask the price before you order if there isn't a menu or Board on the wall. For good value fresh fish I would recommend 'El Alcazar-Bar/Restaurant' or the 'Baviera' they are both next to each other on one of the pedestrian streets in the town centre, off the main street 'Paseo de Almeria'
The food in general is very tasty (can be quite rich/oily) From diferent stewed meats such as Conejo/Pollo/choto al Ajillo (rabbit/chicken/kid in a garlic gravy) Lomo con tomate (pork loin cut up in dices in a tomato sauce)to the little crispy fried fish: sardines, whitebait (boquerones) or redmullet (salmonetes) Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: most of the bars and restaurants can be found in the streets that lead off the main avenue of Paseo de Almeria and the Calle Real. Also down on the Paseo Maritimo (Sea Front)in the area called Zapillo
