I have written elsewhere about the irresponsible, unplanned developments that have destroyed the natural beauty and ecology of the Spanish Coast line.

If you were standing today on this idyllic, natural and unspoiled beach at El Algarrobico in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Almeria you would not be enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the scene before you.

On this legally protected strip of land, thanks to suspect manipulation and blatant denial of Planning Regulations, Developers moved in.

I would be careful to walk alone in the poor part of the city. My friend and I got lost and finally ended up in a labyrint of little paths faced a huge dog which tried to protect the way and after that we met 5 children who threwed stones after us. These kids might have considered this as fun, but we were really scared.

In the Alcazaba you will find water taps of potable water, but please be carefull, some one can do a photo of you!!!!! while drinking!!!! THAT WAS NOTTY lol

If you decide to visit the (Alcazaba) Moorish Fortress, be very careful of muggings, do not wear obvious jewelery, watches, camera round your neck etc.the same goes for the area between 'Calle de las Tiendas' and 'Calle Real' which is a shame because it is the 'old town' and quite picturesque. No need to avoid it altogether but just be alert

	When you go up to Calar Alto,... Tip Rating:

When you go up to Calar Alto, be aware that there may be snow up to several feet all of a sudden. I've not experiences it by myself, but some colleagues told me that they have been trapped there for several days. Have a look at the wheterforecast and ask the taxi driver (ask for Valerio, he is the only one who drives the astronomers up to the hill).

	hold onto your bag

We were warned that certain areas of Almeria, especially near the itadel, were notorius for muggings and pic-pocketing. Even walking in the street it was safer to have your handbag under the arm away from the street as young gypsies on motorcycles liked to speed up alongside and snatch bags from unsuspecting tourists.

	rock falls

The winding coastal road from Almeria has been cut into the rock. There is a drop on the seaward side which could be dangerous. However, there are signs warning of rock falls. In some areas the rock face has been covered by protective netting. It is wise to drive carefully along these roads especially when there has been rain as rocks may have come loose .
