    Car rental??
    by ettenaj
Avoid taxi's just like any other busy place, local bus services are especially cheap, as is the half horly train service that connects all points between Malaga and Fuengirola ( including the airport ). Consider car rental but beware of hidden rental costs ( daily insurance, distance etc) compare prices carefully among local firms, always enquire about special weekend rates.

  • Taxi transfer from Malaga airport costs about 12 euros and takes approx 15 mins. There is a very clean and efficient train service from arroyo that goes both directions along the coast with transfers to other places inland.

    Benalmádena Bus transportation

  • The local bus service (Portillo) is pretty good, but does take time. From the coast road in Benalmadena there is a regular service to the local towns of Torremolinos, Fuengirola and to Malaga city centre (including a stop by the train and bus stations). You can also catch the bus to other towns including Marbella, Algeciras, Estepona or Mijas.
The local bus for Benalmadena only is the orange bus. The Portillo buses are white/blue/green.
If you will be taking the Portillo bus a lot, buy a 'bono' card at the tobacconists. It costs about 2 euros and saves you 1/3 on each one way fare.
Benalmadena to Torremolinos is currently about 1.20 but with the bono card, it costs 81 cents... so you see how quickly the card pays for itself. It is like a pay-as-you-go phone. Charge it up as required!
All bus fares in the region are one way tickets only.

A wonderful way for a family to spend the day is at SEA-LIFE AQUARIUM BENALMADENA.
New for 2008 is Medusas Jellyfish. With their primitive anatomy, there are few animals more intriguing than jellyfish. Did you know that jellyfish are more than 95% water and have no heart, no bones and no brain! Yet they are hauntingly beautiful.
One of the first things you come across is Rocky Depths (Fondos Rocosos), then it's the Ray Tank (Tanque de Rayes) - fascinating creatures aren't they!
Next was my favourite - the Nursery (Guarderia) - all the babies.
Then came the Interactive Zone, the Jellyfish and the Turtle Reef (Arrecife de Tortugas).
Amazonia, Tropical Lagoon (Laguna Tropical) Tropical Reef (Arrecife Tropical) and Discover Nemo.

Admission is 11 Euros. Brochures with discount coupons can be found in various shops, hotels and the tourist info center.

There are some fabulous sea creatures, including several different species of seahorse, angel fish, lobster, cardinal fish, yellow-tailed sturgeon, scorpion fish, conger eels, jellyfish, sea slugs and crabs. The decorative tanks, several with shipwreck themes, have magnifying and minifying glass which work effectively to give a three-dimensional wide-ocean feel.

On a lovely, sunny afternoon, there is nothing better to do in Benalmadena Costa, than to take a STROLL ALONG PASEO DE LAS ISLAS. You can have your pick of many ice-cream kiosks, many shops and boutiques, terraces galore. The idea is to see and be seen. You will see local families with their children dressed up so cute. Perhaps you would like to buy some "day old bread" and feed the fish in the waters of the Marina.
Hans and I picked a lovely day to visit Benalmadena and there were many out doing the same. I enjoyed snooping in many of the little shops and boutiques. Prices were a little steeper here than in Torremolinos, for the same things.

I loved some of the decorations of the port, as I love gaudi mosaics, and the mix of Andalusian and Arabic stiles.

Maybe I also loved as lately I avoid crowded places and it was very quiet that thursday.

Maybe too much oriented to Brits... as personal opinion
