The area by day by SirRichard In summer this long pier at the left far side of the harbour turns into a giant open air nightlife area. There are many pubs and discos here, but the usual thing is to buy the drink and have it outside, by the pier, looking to the bay at night... Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: Av. Pery JunqueraDirections: Follow the main avenue that passes by the harbour to the north, pass "Comes Buses" and turn right before the walls. Follow up till the end.

Beach at night by SirRichard In the modern part of the city, between the Melia Caleta Hotel and the Football stadium there is a nice seaside walk by the beach with many terraces, discos, bars and night clubs. If you are looking for nightlife in the SUMMER, come here! In winter some places are open, but nightlife activity concentrates in the old town rather than here... In summer most of the night life can be found up by Hotel Victoria by Playa (beach) de Victoria. In the square outside the Hotel there is usually a botellon where everyone gathers on the street to drink (THOUGH DUE TO THE ANTI BOTELLON LAWS THIS IS NOW ILLEGAL AND ALMOST EXTINCT). On the road in-between McDonalds and the beach you will find most of the bars (though this gets packed in summer and as the bars are small it can be difficult to enter). Don't forget the beach bars that can be found all up and down the beach. The beach bars are great places to go at any hour of the day. The rest of the year most of the night-life can be found in the centre around Plaza Mina, Plaza San Francisco and the cathedral (El Populo). There is also an official botellon sight on the Punta de San Felipe (by the port) where you can drink in peace in the open air with your friends legally. I have never been here so I can't say much more about it only that the people who go there are usually aged between 18 and 25. There are also several bars which tend to be aimed at the younger members of the population. You can find some of the only pay to enter places in Cadiz here too. Typically the music is Spanish top 40. Please find attached a photo of La Punta during the day.
In the majority of places in Cadiz there is no dress code. In the Iguana Moon on On Calle Brazil and in some bars in La Punta are some of the only places where you have to think about what shoes you should put on. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Retro, El Puerto (james Heneghan) by blint El Puerto de Santa Maria is a small town on the cost of Cadiz, Spain. It is a Spanish summer tourist destination although more and more Foreigners are coming each year. It mainly offers nothing but cheesy Spanish pop for nightlife. Though check out Barsito, cafe Blanco y Negro or Milwaukee for live music, La colonial for Salsa, La Reconquista for an Arabic/Spanish atmosphere or La Pinta for an English atmosphere. Places like Retro ,the bar in the photo, are great in the winter but because thay are so small in summer they really fill up and you end up on the street.
A cheesy checked shirt and V neck jumper for men, anything goes for women. Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicAddress: El Puerto centreDirections: Around the centre. It's compact.

inside Flamenco by blint A small bar called after the Flamingo bird not the musical style. It is decorated by various paintings of Flamencos and also hosts local artist's exhibitions as well as a small stall selling African masks, Arabic jewellery and belts. It is a bar/café and sells different fresh Arabic teas such as Jazmin, green tea and strawberry tea as well as the usual alcoholic beverages (including wheat beer). The music is good and it is largely a hippy hangout where dogs are welcome too. There are also tables outside which look onto the beach when the weather is nice.

Basically there in an El Hoyo in El Puerto de Santa Maria and and one in the centre of Cadiz. The same owners own bar Crivi which is reviewed in a previous tip. El Hoyo in Cadiz centre is a bar come night spot depending on the night and the time. They play good music like bar Crivi which means it is mostly very famous English music from the 60's to the present and some slightly better Spanish music to the teeny boppers Spanish pop. This differs to El Hoyo in El Puerto that plays more modern/funky music. It is decorated by black and white photos of famous singers from Elvis to Annie Lenox, Blondie and U2. There are also some interesting models of planes and helicopters hanging from the ceiling and some other interesting objects. There is also a large screen TV where they show the football (Spanish football that is).
Although this can be a dance venue too; anything goes here. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Diego BeatoDirections: Just down from Plaza San Fransico on the corner of Diego B.

Woodstock has an all wooden interior with large windows that look out onto the sea. It also has two pool tables, good music and a large screen TV where they show music videos and live concerts such as U2. It serves pints including pints of guiness and wheat beer and is open all day. It is a very popular place to have a coffee in the afternoon too, especially in autumn and winter. They are starting to build a terrace so you can sit outside too. But one of the things that I like best about this place is that from it's tall windows you can see more of the beach than if you sit out on it's or another bar's terrace which are lower down (at road level). Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Paseo MaritimoDirections: Past Hotel Playa Victoria heading out of Cadiz. Near the football stadium.

handy mobile camera shot by blint Beautifully decorated in an African/Arabic combo with African masks on the red walls and Arabic tables and water pipes. The doorway itself is guarded by two large African figures. It has a cool atmosphere and for better of for worse it is a popular ESASMUS hangout. For tamer people, go there during the day for a quiet drink or a coffee and for the wilder people go there at night to drink and dance. All in all it's a great place to go on a Friday or Saturday night, but often gets very busy. It is perhaps quieter in summer time when all the foreign students go home. Situated in the old Centre of Cadiz just alongside Nahu, Medussa is one of the best places to go on night out. You won't hear the top 40 here, instead you're more likely to hear funk or the such like. The people range from 18-55, though the older people who go there aren't your typical type. They are more likely to be bordering on 'alternative' or hippy with long grey hair and stylish clothes
Nothing too posh Leave a Comment Theme: DancingDirections: Near plaza San Francisco

by blint This is a pretty little 'teteria' decorated in the style of traditional Arabic tearooms. Here you can drink lots of varieties of Arabic teas, natural fruit juices, cocktails (many from Morocco) amongst other things. You can also smoke an Arabic tobacco water pipe or sample some Arabic sweet pastries. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: Just off of Plaza mina
