The Home of the Jerez wine (known also as Sherry) a visit to the city, their bodegas and a horse show is a must do if you go to the area. Also if you have some time you can visit the zoo.
The show 'Those Amazing Dancing Andalusian Horses' is a horses ballet and I really suggest you to do it, even if I am not too fond of horses I founded extraordinary
Here is a link in Spanish with a list of bodegas and timetables, prices etc, Hope this helps

Heading towards Algeciras is the town of Tarifa which is about 100km, perhaps an hour and 30 minutes drive. This is the southern most part of Europe with the mountains of Africa just a hop skip and a jump across the sea. It is also here that the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet.
You can visit the old castle standing majestically overlooking the sea or amble round the old town exploring the cobbled streets, gazing at the wonderful old buildings, or do like I always do stop at a pavement bar and have a glass of wine and people watch :-)
If you would like to read more of Tarifa click here
Tarifa is also known as the windy city, apparently even sitting on the beach at times can be impossible because of the sand blowing around. However when we visited in late November the sun was shining and all was calm. The beach looked lovely. It is also famous for surfing, and kite surfing. Contests and competitions are held here. There are many sports shops around where you can all the equipment you need, even pay for lessons if you wish.
Here in Tarifa you can also get the ferry to Tangier, it is a high speed ferry and only takes 35 minutes. They run pretty regularly each day.
Ok, I draw the line here with must see activities and I'm sorry Algodonales, but your off the beaten path.
This is a small white town with a very nice church, but town is not the reason why people come here. People normally use this town as a base while they explore the countryside or do some adventure activities such as the flying fox featured in the photo below (don't worry I'm not the girl about to take the plunge that is my ex bosses girlfriend).
Be careful with who you go with if you want to go rock climbing or other adventure sports because some people there are cowboys. Like the man fiddling with the ex bosses girlfriend in the photo. I mean doing the flying fox under a motorway bridge! How natural! When Doug, the guy in the left of the photo, took his turn he went flying straight in to the bosses 4x4. All because the guy tried to hold the rope without gloves and when it burnt his hands he let go! Safe hey! Well anyway the boss still thought it was safe enough to bring over 100 Spanish summer camp kids!
It is part of Barbate, and has incredible beaches and a castle. Famous area by the Almadraba (tuna fishing).
It is getting very famous tourist resort, while a few years ago was still not much known.
Our first stop going to Conil was Sotogrande. This tourist resort is famous as Valderrama golf course is nearby and here many famous have a second house (lets say it is a second Marbella lol).
It was a lovely first day of the year!
It is a National Park, the first one of Spain and even if it is in the province of Huelva is very close to Cadiz
An extensive preserve that includes beaches with moving dunes and of big value for animal and plants
Without words! A must do with no doubt! This city has as much history as Cadiz. You can find rests of the roman city that was previously and also you can enjoy the Moorish style streets and the castle and churches.... There is so much to see that you need more hours that what you first think lol.
We had to see it twice as when we first arrived there was an incredible fog, and by the time we had done most of the visiting, the sun came back and the fog disappeared... so we went back to the same spots .... I guess it is not going to be my last visit.
I had visited a few times, in the last two occasions I enjoyed VT meetings with our famous SirRichard who is from Cadiz and visits the area very often. I had enjoyed his hospitality and is a pleasure to keep on meeting you ;-) ....
Conil has incredible beaches and I had used both times as home base on my excursions around; Zahara de los Atunes, Barbate, Medina Sidonia, Arcos de la Frontera, Vejer de la Frontera, Chiclana etc
there are the beaches of Chiclana, nice tourist resort from where you can see the island of Sancti Petri. I was shock to see how much had been constructed in the last 15 days, as I had not been before, even if I was living in Cadiz.
