  • Santa Catalina

This church featured in the photo is located opposite Torre Guzman and is an important icon in the village. Built in the 15th century although it has undergone several face lifts, It was parish priest Francisco de Paula Fernández-Caro who was responsible for it's current look.It is unclear as what period or design it has, perhaps a mixture of...

  • The Village

Apart from the beach the other main thing to do here is walk around the white cobbled streets of the village, admiring the fact that all the houses are white and always remembering to look in any open doorway as you are sure to find a stunning interior patio filled with plants and features. You can also stop and grab a drink or a bite to eat in one...

  • Chiringuitos

Chiringuitos are beach stalls that you will find in Conil's beaches in summer. They are open all day, so U can have lunch or dinner here. Yjey put the tables directly on the sand, under a big umbrella. Is a nice place to have a pre-lunch beer with some tapas on a day at the beach!

  • Restaurante El Huerto

This small restaurant is located right at the beach (La Fontanilla), below the Hotel El Fuerte, so is a good place for a summer lunch if you are spending the day at the beach.Another good option is a quiet dinner on the terrace by the sand under the moon. Reserve on advance for dinners (phone below).

On the Fontanilla beach there are 2 wonderful beach restaurants, "La Fontanilla" and "Francisco". • Best cocktails

The best cocktails in conil i tried in the Fitzcaraldo cocktail bar; you should go there after dinner at 12.30 a.m., sit outside and watch people; i recommend the different types of daiquiri. very nice staff. could be that you have to wait a while for a table

  • 2 nice bars

small bar; spanish music only; one of the few places in conil where people are dancing (except discos like Icaro etc)Great fun till 4 a.m.Opposite to this bar, you`ll find "la cuchera", an open air bar with house music; usually very crowded between 2 and 4 a.m.

  • La Luna (the moon)

This is one of the classic night places in Conil. Is an open air disco, located in a huge patio between houses. Is a nice patio with palm trees and other plants, though you won't see any plants if you come here at night... it is sooo crowded you won't even see the floor! The place starts to get alive from 1 am... till sunrise approx.

There is no train station in Conil de la frontera. The buses of Transportes generales Comes take you to Sevilla, Cadiz or Vejer at a very cheap price. There are buses to Malaga too, but it will take you approximately 4 or 5 hours to arrive there.Just Jerez is not so easy to reach by bus, because from Conil to Jerez there are just 3 or 4 buses a...

In Xmas you can enjoy many traditional sweets and candies. The best of them are those from a village called Medina (and my favourites are Aromas de Medina). Conil de la Frontera Local Customs

  • Caracoles (snails)

In summer you will find many bars and restaurants in Conil with a handmade sign indicating they have caracoles. These are little white snails that people here use to have with sauce. They are smaller than the french "scargots" but are eaten the same way.I don't personally like them, but maybe some of U do...

  • party like the locals

In Conil they have traditional celebrations throughout the year. One such occasion is in honour of Saint Carmen, the patron Saint of fishermen. This is of particular importance as Conil is a fishing village. They have a flotilla of ships on the day then parade an idol of the virgin throughout the town but the best bit is at night on the beach. They...

Conil de la Frontera Warnings and Dangers

  • Levante

In this area of Spain blows from time to time a very strong wind called Levante, that`s why it is windsurfer`s paradise. If this happens, you should avoid going to Conil beach, it`s so windy that you can`t bear it there. Instead try the bay of Roche.

  • Cocaine de la Fronterra

Conil is a brilliant place to stay, full of great food, wonderful people and a lovely atmosphere. However, as with quite a lot of small coastal towns, the youth are stuck with 8-9 months of very little to do. Combine this with drug trafficking from North Africa and you can see what has happened.Cannabis (hash) is sold openly in the street,...

  • Dangerous streams

Being an open beach to the Atlantic Ocean, there are strong streams if you dare to swimm far from the coast. There won't be much trouble if you go in summer, as there are lifeguards all along the beach, but if you swimm off season, be very careful.I can tell you that as I wasn't, and had some trouble once. I was swimming away from the coast and...

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you have to develop your films, avoid this "1 hour" shop. I went there to develop and all my photos appeared blueish and dark.
Besides, it was awfully expensive, 20 euros for a 36 pics developing!!!
They give you many presents after: 1 film, 1 album and even a watch! but they surely charged you already for that...

Unique Suggestions: Kacun is located at the Plaza de Espana square, just behind the fountain you can see in the photo.

Conil de la Frontera Off The Beaten Path

  • Canos de Meca

Although Conil definitely has the most beautiful beach in the area, it`s not easy to swim, because of the wind and the waves. so try out the beach in canos the meca too; it`s a nice small town, not overcrowded. The beach is not as beautiful as in Conil, but there is not much wind or waves, so you can swim the whole day there.the atmosphere is very...

A walk by the cliffs that go from Fuente del Gallo beach to Cala del Aceite, in the north part, outside the village, is a nice activity around sunset, when the heat is not so hard. • Sandy beach

Most tourists travelling to the Costa del Sol don't realise it, but the best beaches are on the Atlantic side of southern Spain. Terifa is only an hours drive from Marbella, and from there and west, you find one fantastic beach after the other. • Board walk

A long board walk gives easy access to the beach, but once you are on the sand it is advisable to use sandals. The sand can be hot enough to burn your feet!
