Just a few miles outside the city and once connected by a brick roadway to Cordoba lies Medina Azahara.
Built as both a workplace and a home, the site is in two pieces. Both of them were oppulent and the Caliph could show his wealth and power to visitors.
Entry is free to EU citizens but you have to pay for the car park, but that is only 80 cents. The car park is small and when we went clogged with coaches! In the end we parked halfway on the road and halfway in a ditch.

a piece of art in the middle of nowhere...
At first I wasnt feeling like going to Medina Azahara, but as I took the Cordoba card I decided it was stupid not to go as the excursion was included in the price of the card.
How stupid would I be if I havent been there !!!!
As the legend said Medina Azahara was a city build for the love of a woman in the middle of the cordoba countryside by Abdul Rahman.
While discovering the ruins of what used to be a magnificient city, you can only admire the beauty of the islamic arts and the perfection of their architect.
Close to Cordoba, you can find the remnants of the moorish city of Medina Azahara. Although you will see less architectural details than in e.g. the Mezquita, it is very nice to see how a city in this area must have looked like. Walls, streets, gardens, gates, it's all there. Medina Azahara is located in a nice setting on the slopes of a mountain.

Visiting Madina Alzahara...
Visiting Madina Alzahara is essential: It´s located 8 kms far from Cordoba capital. It was built during 25 years (936 b.c.) by Abderraman III.
In 1010 was destroyed by berebers.
Again rebuilt in 1236 by Fernando III, erecting palaces, churches and abbeys (nothing compared to the original).
However it´s worth to visit the ruins.
