visit mijas in the uphills
The area governed by the Town Hall of Mijas takes in three very different neighbourhoods, the village high up in the mountain, a more modern built up area and along a 12 kilometre stretch of little villages by the sea - each area having its own distinct characteristics

Aqua land Water theme park
You can easily spend E100 for a family of four for the day as entry alone can cost $50.00
Not a bad park but during the childrens holidays is simply too crowded which means huge line ups for evey event reducing the time and patience you can have for the place. If you have been to the theme parks of florida you will be disappointed here as there really is little for the big kids amounst us
Even loungers are extra cost but there is an area under shade which is grassed and on which you can take a siesta if the loud music doesnt annoy you to distraction.
Fine for 5 - 11 year olds or to keep cool away from the beachRelated to:

Cataraman Boat Ride off Fuengirola
If your going to be near the water, you should be on the water. I enjoyed my boat trip on the Aqua Vista-a glass bottom submarine/cataraman that does several sailings per day. I liked it was only one and a half hours long. It was a nice break from laying on the beach, yet was not an all day commitment. The boat goes out for over an hour and will take you to see dolphins. I saw dozens the day I went- they are beautiful & jump right out of the water to greet the boat. A nice quick scenic view of the coastline, and back in time for lunch!Related to:

Puerto Marina and the promenade.
It is said that Fuengirola offers one of the best Marinas in the Mediterranean. There are many terraces and restaurants at the Marina, The Fishing Port and The Yacht Club and from the Marina you can go on dolphin cruises, sea fishing, scuba diving and other water sports.
The Promenade is lovely as well and filled with lovely statues. I add photos of 3 of the statues there. One of which is called "La historia de la Peseta" - The history of the Peseta.
On the Promenade you will also find a lot of African men selling fake label bags and watches and sun-glasses.
The 7 beaches in Fuengirola all have The Blue flag, which is given for cleanliness and good facilities.
The obligatory visit to the Information Center.
The first thing to do in Fuengirola is to head for the Information Center and get a map of the city with information on what there is of interest here. Plus a train timetable and bus-schedule and then one is set to go and explore the city - and here there are a lot of things to explore.
The Information Center is situtated on the main street, the same street as the train-station.

Centro Idea - The Danish center.
A little outside of Fuengirola on the road to Mijas there is a Danish Center called Idea, where everything is Danish - the shop owners, the restaurant - everything. As I love Denmark then I went there many times. There is a furniture store, a health-food store, a Danish food-store, linguerie boutique, travel-agency, a restaurant/café, a dentist and a hairdresser, a bank and a trading agency and many more activities. In this area a lot of Danes reside.
It is open from 10-19 and Saturdays from 10-16.
Excursions from Fuengirola
There are lots of excursions you can do from Fuengirola, some of them easy to do yourself on public transport, some easier to do with and organised tour group.
The white village of Mijas is about twenty minutes away, just take the bus from the bus station in the centre of town, they leave regularly.
You can also get the bus to Marbella further down the coast, where you can walk on the promenade, visit the old town or take a boat trip down to Puerto Banus.
Another trip you could do is take the train into Malaga and visit the Gibralfaro Castle or the Picasso museum or just go shopping.
You will find information about day trips in your accommodation or in the Tourist Office. Two popular trips are to Granada (+the Alhambra) or to Morrocco.Related to:

Fuengirola and surroundings
Located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, in the heart of the COSTA DEL SOL, thanks to its good communication infrastructure (new motorways, railways and proximity to the airport), Fuengirola is still one of the favourite touristic destinations for Spaniards and foreigners, any time of the year, who find here a quiet town, with great leisure facilities and an excellent climate.
In spite of the great achievements in tourism infrastructure, the city of Fuengirola still maintains its traditions and its nature of an Andalusian village.
Its Phoenician, Arab and Roman remains prove that this privileged spot captivated all who arrived here, since distant times.
Its semi-tropical climate and its eight kilometres of wonderful and well cared for beaches of fine sand, with all the services and bordered by a magnificent Promenade, make this a place that is both an obligatory place to stay and the starting point for a large variety of excursions and for the practice of all types of tourism: Historical-cultural, Active, Rural, Nature, etc.
Fuengirola offers everything from visits to the Zoo - the only one on the whole Andalusian coast-, to tours of the city on the tourist train, from the animated and varied entertainment areas of night time Fuengirola to romantic rides in horse-drawn carriages.
The Casa de la Cultura offers visitors and residents year-round a long list of cultural and leisure activities that are characterised by their variety and quality. Exhibitions, concerts, plays and musicals, puppet shows, dance?.
The city has the Teatro Variet?s, the only theatre in Andalusia that is managed and directed by foreign residents -who are a numerous and important part of Fuengirola - where spectators can enjoy all year many top quality shows in English. Fuengirola, a city of services and shopping centre of the Costa del Sol, is visited every Tuesday by thousands of people who come to the popular "street market" that is set up at the FairgroundRelated to:

A beautiful Church and Square in Fuengirola.
This is a lovely church ,NUESTRA SENORA
DEL ROSARIO, the Square PLAZA DE LA
CONSTITUCION ,is a beautiful area ,really a wonderful place to sit down have cofffee or something in one of the Bars/restaurants with outdoor tables. As you can see in the many pictures of Lori relaxing on a bench in this square we had a geat time ,it was a bit cool but still very nice.
The Marina port is in the city center. I remember coming here about 10 years ago and it was full of pubs, not sure if it is still.
there are a few restaurants, But I would not recomended, did not liked the smell the last time I was there lol
From Plaza de la Constitucion (Constitution Square) you can take Calle Espa?a (Spain Streat), to go to the Paseo Maritimo and the beach. Full of clothes shops, gifts shops, photo shops, second hand book store, restaurants and Correos (Post Office). At the end, in the Paseo Maritimo, a good Ice Cream Shop "Verdu"
Had a memorable trip
So my view of Fuengirola is mostly positive. It was clean and tidy and had a great nightlife and a great selection of places to eat and drink. The beach was ok but i dont think it was that nice and ive seen nicer. When i went it was so windy and sand went everywhere and it actually stung as it was so windy and it was blowing around.I think what made the trip was hiring a car and seeing the beauty inland.By all means go to Fuengirola but do go inland abit as its wonderful.I would go back and i would rent an apartment and eat out every night ;-)
Also Mijas was a nice day out.The great views and the roasted caramel nuts and walking along the nice streets. Its worth going here but try to go late afternoon so u can park and see alot more without bus loads of people.Related to:

Hire a car
As the hotel food was crap we went to loads of restaurants and bars. They were all pretty good and the food was good quality and think i put on half a stone ;-).We hired a car and went to a village called Mijas which was an enjoyable day out.
I remember driving to Mijas and the scenery on the way was great. Its 1400 feet above sea level and has some nice streets. Its very popular and coach loads of people visit during the day.We visited late afternoon as most coaches had left or were leaving. In the pic you can see behind me donkeys and horse and carts. You could hire a horse and cart and tour the town. But i decided to walk.I remember buying some caramel baked nuts things off a stall here and they were so yummy i bought another pack about an hour later.Related to:
