TEA ROOMS, Granada

All around Plaza Nueva there are Arabic tea rooms that serve teas very different to that of England or North America. I recommend trying: Te Pakistani with milk, Sueños de Alambra with water, Jasmine Te(with water), Mil Flores (with water), passion fruit te (with water).

You can also get fresh fruit juices such as zumo de Naranja (Orange), limon (lemon),Mango or a mix for example Naranja, limon, kiwi, Fresa (strawberry) and banana. Or try the typical Arabic drink which is Lemon with Mint (limonada)

You can get great milkshakes too with all the same flavours as the fruit juices and more.

Favorite Dish: My favourites are all the tea's mentioned above, Limonada, Fresh orange and lemon juice and the banana milkshake.

Try the tea rooms: Kasbah or the one right at the top of the road looking down on everything.

You can also smoke traditional Arabic tobacco pipes for 8 to 10 euros (Which works out well if you share with friends). Try the Mint, rose or apple flavours if you can, though they usually offer strawberry and banana too.

A great little teahouse in the heart of the Albayzin along the busy Calle Caldereria Nueva. The interior is made up to reflect the Muslim architecture you'll see at the Alhambra which makes for a nice atmosphere. The menu include many types of teas, shakes, and crepes. No AC so don't expect to cool off if it's a hot day.

Favorite Dish: Crepes with chocolate, banana, and cream (yummy!); eucalyptus tea

Many Morrocan style 'teterias', or tea houses, line the streets Caldereria Nueva and Caldereria Vieja. Cluster around a tiny wooden carved table on pillows or stools and enjoy the atmosphere. Tea is served in beautiful pots and in decorated glass tea glasses.

Some teterias seem like mazes in which you must wander through low-roofed hallways or climb narrow stairs to find unique nooks to relax in. The teaterias can sometimes be packed so be prepared to wait, but it is definetly worth it. Come, enjoy, and relax.

Favorite Dish: The teaterias serve an amazing variety of teas. Two of my favourites are 'te pakistani' and infusion de hierba luisa. They also serve juices, crepes, and batidos (similar to a milkshake, but not nearly as heavy). Try the excellent almond pasteries.

Teterias are Moorish style tea houses, where You can enjoy choosing a glass of aromatic herbal or fruit teas from the vast menu.

I'd recently returned from 2 weeks in Morocco, and was missing my daily mint tea fix!

I entered, and was shown to a room decorated in a Moroccan style - rich dark colours, lamps, low tables, settees, cushions, nargilles (water cooled smoking pipes-11 euros to hire) etc.

Moroccan music was playing quietly in the background. There was a young couple enjoying a romantic meeting opposite me, and an elderly couple at the side of me

The menu of teas etc was vast, it took me ages to decide - I'd intended having a mint tea, but it seemed a shame not to try something different!

In the end I had a freshly squeezed orange and lemon juice. Not very adventurous, but while I was drooling over the menu, I realised that I'd lost sense of time, and I had just an hour to get back to my hotel, then back down to Plaza de Torres, to try and buy a ticket for that evenings Bruce Springsteen concert, so I just chose this for the quickest.

Well the juice was delicious and thirst quenching!

Next time I'm in Granada I'll return here and work my way through the menu, and try some of the small pastries or a snack of kebabs or Shawarmas that were listed.

You can't miss having tea - or coffee, or lunch, or dinner! - at one of Granada's tea rooms. Most of them can be found at the Albayzin neighborhood and they're very hard to miss, so just walk around for a bit and take a look at each of them so you can pick the one you like best. In my case, it was Kasbah. This tea room is very pretty and relaxing, and serves a great variety of teas, as well as delicious middle eastern dishes and desserts. Try to sit by the window so you can people-watch while you enjoy whatever you ordered, and feel the magic of Granada's Arabic past and present.

Favorite Dish: Hummus (a dip made of chickpea served with pita bread)

We visited more than 10 in two afternoons, it is quite dificult to stop eating that sweet cookies with a mint (or other) flavoured tea... we found a street with several tenths of them, some with several floors, and all were crowded!!!

Favorite Dish: They mainly serve many kinds of tea with (again) many kinds of sweets and cookies... but forget that English-style butter ones!

TETERIAS are the Arabian tea houses, most of them in Albaicín, on the Calderería Nueva Street. The tea selection is really great and you can also eat here, they have great pancakes and pastries. Or even if you don’t feel like eating or drinking just stop by to see how it looks... it’s really great.

In the heart of the Albeicin District, this street would make you think you were in Morocco. Many Tea shops along the street serve tea.
