Calle Larios on a Sunday

The main shopping area is around Calle Marques de Larios, near the cathedral and Calle Nueva. Spain biggest department store "El Corte Ingles" is located opposite the train station.

The shops open between 9 and 10 am. They close for lunch at 1 or 2 pm, and open in the afternoon at 4 or 5 pm until 8 or 9:30 pm. Most large shopping centres and department stores stay open during lunchtime. Shops are closed on Sunday.

What to buy: Especially clothes and shoes

What to pay: less expensive than in other parts of Europe

PLAZA MAJOR: A HUGE MALL & ATTRACTIONS

LoriPori 2773 reviews

A superb leisure area containing over 25 shops, 50 restaurants, bars and other attractions PLAZA MAJOR or Parque de Ocio Plaza Major, is located just outside Torremolinos on the way to Malaga, close to Malaga International Airport. The easiest way to get there is via the Fuengirola to Malaga train line, as the site now has its own station at which all trains now stop.
Designed to resemble a typical Andalucia town, with its streets, squares, facades and fountains, Plaza Major is a great place to spend a few hours, especially in the evening. In addition to the bars and restaurants, there is a multi-screen cinema, a family entertainment center, 20 lane bowling alley and over 25 shops including a Nike factory.
Free parking for 3000 vehicles.
Open Monday to Sunday.

The market: Plenty of choice
Kettleman profile photo
Kettleman 470 reviews

It's not a shop but a covered market.

In an ornare building you can find locally produced food stuffs from fish and meat to fruit and veg.

Be amazed at the amount and the size of the fruit and be even more amazed at the low prices, something we have become strangers to in the UK in our Tesco world!

What to buy: Fruit
Veg
Meat
Fish
Olives
etc
etc
etc

Calle Larios: Main Shopping Street in Malaga

From Constitution Square

This street is plenty of modern shops. It's the most important pedestrian street in Malaga and it's always full of locals, families, tourists... You can find any modern clothes shop: Zara, Mango, Benetton... shoes, jewelry, and also cafes, ice-creams, banks...

Every route in town passes through this street. It's close to everything in the city center. Most of buses stops at the "doors" of this street, so you won't have to search it, you'll find it.

What to buy: If you need clothes or a watch, this shops are ok.

i like this shopping centre.
but the parking is very steep and i found out that i had to take it in 1 and not change to 2 so the car stoped halfway. did not drove a diesel before.
if you buy something for 6 euros or more you can park free for 3 hours. just take your receipt to the person next to the ticketmachine show your receipt an parkingcard and you are done.
i bought a bottle of anis for about 7.15 euro in the supermarket.
on the lowest level you have the supermarket than you have to higher levels with shops and bove that is the parking

What to buy: supermarkets for bottle of alcohol bought anis del mono dulce for 7.15.
my mum bought dwarves for her collection at the disney store plata2 level 2 i think
i went to the hairdresser at plata2 level 2 nearby the info point Agustin e Hijos Peluqueros.
clothes and shoes not my size of course.

the more elegant look
2 more images

Each year, at the local 'Ferias', the locals really like to go to town and don traditional dress for parading and some for performing. These colourful outfits (for females) look stunning on the kids and youngsters and the 'younger woman' shall we say - but women of all ages and all shapes and sizes squeeze into these multi-coloured frilly frocks and I've just got to admire their joire-de-vivre :-) I will take some photos this year!

Want to check out the outfits, Viva La Feria has more elegant selections with Rocio close by whose ranges are more carnival-like.

Walk past the flower sellers

If you want to meander around a modern, air-conditioned ;-) department store and see some beautiful spanish-made clothes, accessories, bed linen, pictures, kitcheware etc........then Corte Ingles provides plenty of stock to peruse. The Malaga branch is split into two buildings that are easily accessed via an internal walkway, the secondary store being dedicated more to Homeware.

Top floor has a selection of eateries; tapas bar, cafeteria and self-service unlimited buffet for 17.75 euros a head.

This little shop is tucked away in a small street east of Calle Larios. If you're a Mum or an Auntie or a Gran or a Grandad come to think of it! and want to take the wee cherished ones back a wonderful treat then take a peek at the huge range of beautiful, colourful, tiny leather shoes. They're not cheap but the quality is excellent and you just dont see these back in the UK.

With Spring well and truly here and summer just around the corner, if you're looking to update your footwear then this is the street for you. I'll just mention a few shops to get you started but then you're on your own - happy shopping :-)

Antonio Parriego is right at the top of the street on the corner with the 'plaza de la Constitucion' (big square!). This is the place if you like a bit of bling on your summer shoes.

Nicolas & Gody are half way down on the corner with Calle Strachan. Eclectic ranges including spanish Camper (very colourful this year), Geox, Firestone, Diesel etc........

There are plenty more also dotted around the side streets.

What to buy: Espadrilles are usually a great buy because most of them are made here in Spain and the ranges are like no where else.

Seriously folks, you will be overwhelmed by the array of door and drawer accessories available here, from sleek and modern to charactful antique. If you're renovating here in Spain or looking for something to brighten up a tired chest-of-drawers back home, you'll be spoilt for choice.
