This Church can be found in Calle Granada, near the Picasso Museum and the house where Picasso was born.IGLESIA DE SANTIAGO was constructed on the site of an ancient mosque in 1490 and is the oldest church in Malaga. Its facade still contains the original central door and the tower with starred vaulted ceiling has also been retained. Both are in Mudejar style and are of great historic importance. Inside the Church, the main altarpiece, dating from the 18th century is sure worth seeing.
I took some lovely shots of the inside of the Church. I was unable to take the outside as it was getting dark. Besides, the streets are so narrow, it's next to impossible to take good exterior shots.

Walking from "Picasso Museum" to "Plaza de la Merced" you will find the church of Santiago in "calle Granada", built over a old mezquita. Is the oldest church in Malaga. It was built in july of 1490. The door and the tower are in mudejar style, the inside if gotic-mudejar style. The tower is really beautiful.

TAPAS: Have a wine and a tapa at the "Bodega Pimpi" (If you don't want to have nothing .. just get in ... its beautiful)

At Iglesia de Santiago you can find this mudejar tower.

Before used to be a mosque and they keep the tower.

At calle Granada, I used to pass this church for 3 year sometimes 4 times per day lol

In between Plaza de la Merced and Picasso Musseum (in between is the Papas asadas eating tip and El Pimpim for a nice glass of wine ;-)

  • Where Picasso was baptised

Yes, our famous malagueño painter was baptised in 1881 right here in the Iglesia de Santiago on Calle Granada which can be found leading off of Plaza de la Merced where Picasso was born.

It is, in fact, the oldest church in Malaga dating back to 1490. It has a mudejar tower and inside there is a mix of Mudejar and Gothic styles.

It also has a large wooden door with what looks like breasts on it. I thought it was my imagination until I saw the willy shapes too! Check out my other photos attached if you think I'm making it up or have a very dirty mind.
