Tabernas a gogo
Don´t miss the numerous tabernas and bars all over town. We have to make a difference between "tabernas"/"bars" and "pubs". Tabernas get crowded from 8pm on. It´s another place to taste excellent Montilla wine and tapas. There are so many places, many of them don´t even have a name. Classics are Ciriaco and Carrasquilla (delicious snails!!) but there are dozens. "Pubs" are disco bars, they are up 11.00pm-4.00am. It´s great to go bar-hopping everything is close together and atmosphere in the streets is awesome.
Los Arcos: Friendly open atmosphere for wine and tapas
This is a beautiful restaurant right in the heart of town at Plaza de la Rosa. It is also a taberna, since dozens of people usually gather here before lunch (12am-2pm) to share some fresh Montillian wine and tapas. The wines from Los Arcos are famous, they brew them themselves. Some people stay to lunch, of course: flamenquines (breaded rolls of meat with a special sauce in the insied, delicious with thick mayonnaise!), seafood soup, sirloin steak and baked goosefish (don´t get it wrong, although Montilla has no coas, fish is BEAUTIFULLY cooked here).
Las Camachas: The Montillan Classic
A true classic, probably one of the oldest and most renowned restaurants in Montilla. Salmorejo (something like gazpacho, but thicker, eaten as a dip), rabo de toro (bull's tail meat, the sweetest and tenderest kind of meat you´ll ever try), alcachofas a la montillana (artichokes cooked with wine) are the favorite of the area, especially cooked at Las Camachas. Don´t forget of course the selection of wines from Montilla.
