British Restaurante/Bar. Genesis is the only bar anywhere near to the new market site in Urb. Almijara II. Where the Sunday market has already gone to. Barbecues are held on Fridays from 7.30pm and live entertainment is a regular feature. This is a bar with a large terrace and very comfortable. Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere: Busy place. Take some company. Theme: Small ordinary pub inside. The large outside terrace is where everybody is. No particular theme. Opening times: From 11am until 3pm and from 7.30pm Tuedays to Saturdays. Closed Mondays Opens at 9am on Sundays for the market. Disabled notes: Quite a long way from Nerja.

Irish Annie's : Prop. - Annie.: Say hello to Annie. (Calle Almirante Caranza)
Irish Bar. A lovely little bar that again serves the black nectar known as draught Guinness, is Irish Annie's. Tables outside and a sunny location mean that in the height of Summer the bar NEEDS both of its two air conditioning units running at the same time. Spacious and comfortable with a warm welcome are the key words here. And Yes the bar owner's name IS Annie ! Guinness, Amstel and Heiniken are sold here. Price range: More expensive than most English bars. Atmosphere: Good craic. Theme: Great Irish decor throughout. Opening times: Lunchtimes and until fairly late at night. Open earlier on Tuesdays for the market. Disabled notes: Level access but toilets are quite narrow.

    Casual. No beach wear.

La Cabaña: A cuban twist at La Cabaña. (Avda Castilla Perez)
International Tapas Bar. La Cabaña is a small bar that you could very easily miss albeit being on the main road down to the sea front (Avenida Castilla Perez). The owner is Cuban and his wife is either French or Belgian (I can't remember which). The bar has subdued lighting and is long and narrow in shape. This bar only apears to open in the evenings at the time of writing, from around 7pm. the owners have only had this bar arelatively short time and it is surprising that it is up for sale again already. Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere: Not bad. Theme: Very Spanish considering the ownership. Opening hours: Disabled notes: Level access but narrow bar.

    Casual.

    Legends: Sports Legends. (Avda Mediterraneo)
British Sports Cafe/Bar. Legends is a very sporty cafe / bar. There are pictures of various football grounds decorating the bar. The colour scheme is purple (an odd colour). Snacks are on offer here and there is a terrace outside with a TV as there are also two TVs inside. Draught Guinness, John Smiths and San Miguel are sold here. Football and other sports are shown on TV and advertised on their board outside. Price range: Good value for money this close to the sea front. Atmosphere; Not bad at all for this underused bar. Theme: Very football oriented throughout. Opening times: Bar currently CLOSED. Disabled notes: Warning: Steps down to the terrace and entrance. There is a ramp but it's very steep.

    Casual.

Linda's Bar : Proprieter - Linda.: A nice bar called Linda's. (Calle Malaga)
British Bar. Linda's Bar is a small pub with an outside terrace at the front. Being on Calle Malaga, there isn't the volume of traffic going past as is with some bars. If you walk up Calle Malaga from the sea front, you can use this as an alternative route to get to the Balcon. Just go straight up past the Speakeasy and turn right. Comfortable and reasonably priced drinks. Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere: Very good. Small and intimate bar. Theme: Good clean, comfortable decor without needing a theme. Opening times: Disabled notes: A couple of steps up to the entrance.

    Casual.

Los Bilbainos: The Commy bar. (Calle Alejandro Bueno)
Spanish Tapas Bar. Los Bilbainos is otherwise known amongst the English here as the 'Commy Bar' due to the picture of 'Che' over the clock. This bar is very traditional Spanish. Low prices and a tapa are the rule here. The bar has 2 tables outside but the views are a bit limited and only limited sunshine gets to this narrow street. You may need to speak a little Spanish (Andalus) here. The beer is good and the wine reasonable. Price range: Excellent value for money and includes 'Tapas'. Atmosphere: Very good. Theme: Old time Spanish which really works. Opening times: Lunchtimes and evenings. Disabled notes: One step up from the narrow pavement.

Casual. You may want to look the street up on the map in the Nerja Essential (Website link below) Grid ref. E6.

Malibu: Malibu. Large refitted bar. (Calle Malaga)
International Cafe/Bar. A large and tastefully decorated bar that has recently reopened is Bar Malibu on Calle Malaga. There is shaded terrace space outside at the front and plenty of seating inside, both with tables or at the bar counter. The theme is rattan furniture and a very Carribean feel. There is even a dance floor area. Also prices are no higher than in other bars. Draught beers on offer are the German Warsteiner and Spanish Victoria (Malaga). Price range: Very good value for money considering that this bar has just been refitted to a high standard. Atmosphere: Very good for such a large bar. Theme: Caribbean throughout, tastefully done. Opening hours This bar is open all day. Closed Sundays. Disabled notes: One step up to the bar. Large and level inside.

    Casual.

Pie in the Sky : Prop. - Neville.: Pie in the Sky. Deli. bar (Prol. Antonio Millon)
British Deli Bar. Pie in the Sky is an unconventional bar in the fact that it is now a delicatessen first and a bar second. Stocks of English bacon and sausages can be purchased here although a little pricy. The Pie in the Sky used to be called "The Black Stuff" for those of you who have an old copy of Nerja Essential or have not been back for a while. Draught Guinness and San Miguel are on draught. This bar has just changed ownership November 2005. This place is handy for dropping into when visiting the market on Tuesdays. However there are moves afoot to relocate the Tuesday market to an area near El Zoco where the Sunday Car Boot has already gone to, which is right at the top (uphill) end of town (and then some) soon. Price range: Drinks are good value for money but food, especially take home food for your fridge/freezer, is a bit over priced. Atmosphere: Good conversation. Theme: This is a deli bar and is kitted out as such. Opening times: From 11am 'til 7pm. Closed Sundays. Disabled notes: Level access with large toiets.

    Casual

Sharp's bar.: Sharp's piano bar. (Calle Carabeo)
International Bar Sharp's is a very different type of bar. Tony Sharp only seems to open when he feels like it. The bar has a massive feature of a grand piano but it is never played! The bar is on the sea front and would have a great sea view but it is only open at night! There is a bar counter but there is no draught beer! Only bottled. However, you will be spell bound by the conversation as Tony can (AND WILL) talk on any and all subjects! Price range: Above the average. Atmosphere: Absolutely excellent. Theme: The piano is a talking point as it is not played due to noise respect for residents living above. Opening times: Evenings only until fairly late. Disabled notes: Steps down and narrow toilets.

    Smart casual.

Sinatra's Bar: Memories of Frank Sinatra. (Calle Los Huertos)
Spanish Theme Bar. If you like the music of Frank Sinatra, you will like this bar. If you don't you'll hate it! Sinatras only plays Sinatra music and is low lighted and billed as a 'romantic rendezvou'. Candles on the tables help to set the scene. This is a nice place to visit either before or after going out for a romantic meal for two. Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere: Take your own company in with you to this underused bar. Theme: Frank Sinatra pictures abound and the music also. Opening times: From around 7pm until late. Disabled notes: Steps inside this bar preclude it from wheelchairs and narrow pavements outside.

Smart casual. A place for couples.
