The Ship : Prop. - Rob and Cath.: Go overboard at the Ship (Avda Mediterraneo)
British Cafe/Bar. Despite the oldish name, the Ship is quite a modern looking, bright and airy pub. Decoration is limited to nautical charts on the wall and a model of a sailing ship. There are tables at the front outside the bar for drinking and eating 'al fresco' in a sunny location. There is Sky TV available inside the bar. Sold here is the ever faithful Guinness. Good food is served here at lunchtimes. Price range: A bit higher priced but it is on the seafront, almost. Atmoshphere: A very modern theme that leaves the place a bit cold. Theme: Does not really carry on the nautical theme of its name. Opening times: Most lunchtimes and evenings. Disabled notes: Level access.

Casual.

British Cafe/Bar. Despite the olde worlde name, this is a bright, airy and modern bar. The Smugglers is larger that many bars in Nerja and quite comfortable, having a mezanine level which overlooks the Avenida Castilla Perez and so is ideal for people watching. Good food is served here. The Smugglers considers itself as a restaurant as well as a bar. Price range: Good value for money. Atmosphere: Not that much unless you bring your own company with you. Theme: The inside does NOT carry on the theme of the name of the place. Too modern. Opening times: Mid morning until fairly late at night. Disabled notes: Not wheelchair friendly as there a flight of steps down to the bar and narrow passage to toilets.

    Casual.

Bar Bogey: Gonna take you to a GAY BAR GAY BAR GAY BAR
Bar Bogey, what a find... went there many times. Owned by Pepe (of course) ran by Francisco!!! Two guys with moustaches!! The more we went in the cheaper the drinks were!! Love these two guys!!! Closes about six to eight in the morning depending on how many people are there! Gay decor, gay people, This place is GAY! but bloody fun! Oh yeah Gary copped off with a 'girl' over Six foot tall, hairy arms, big adams apple! (photos to follow if I can get them off Gary). After Bar Bogey Pepe and Francisco always took us to another watering hole! Think they had different ideas!!! And Sean had a knife pulled out on him... the guy said 'i was just showing him the size of the blade' strange!

Bars closed down or changed name: Bars that are closed down or changed name.
This is to save you a needless walk to bars that are closed. List :- Information correct as at 30 Sep 2005 Dragon's bar (Closed) on C/ Diputacion Kanguru (Closed) on C/ Antonio Millon Market Tavern (Closed) on C/ Ruperto Arduez The Bus Stop (Used to be called 'The Final Whistle' (Closed)) by the bus station T-Bone (Changed name to Unplugged - OPEN) on C/ Almirante Carranza The Orange Tree (changed name - OPEN) on C/ Los Huertos Robin Hood (changed name to The Hideaway OPEN again after 12 months (not at El Zoco) this is on Plaza Marina Cabaletto del mar (Little Seahorse) - (demolished - Closed) on Salon beach - (Going to be rebuilt !) Bar Boni (Although purpose built. Never opened - Closed) behind the bus station Bananaburgers (Closed) on C/ Antonio Millon Europa (Closed) off C/ El Bario Europa (Closed) on C/ Antonio Millon Fillmore (Closed) on C/ San Miguel Chanquete (Closed perminantly August 2005) on C/ Amirante Chanquete Legends (Closed) on Avenida Mediterraneo Miramar (Changed name to Slainte - OPEN) on Avda. Mediterraneo

N/A A little note: Sometimes you will see a bar appears to have two names. The LARGER one is usually the accepted name (but not always) of the bar. I think that you cannot remove a Spanish name from a bar (I may be wrong). Anyway it's a Spanish thing ! Examples are Jago's. Is also El Carillion. and The Coach & Horses. Is also El Bodegon.

    Irish annies: free peanuts
Splendid, super, smathing, great, cosmic, tremendous, rather more than slightly brill and a bit good as well. The cocktails.............Elvis loves the cocktails, Elvis says "try the cocktails" when Elvis says....ya gotta try it. There was a fantastic picture on the wall of plies and piles of beer barrels, proper art that!. Sandwiches are good as well. All in all, fanrific, as hong kong phoey will attest.

    Tito Bolas: Traditional Spanish Nights

  • Tito Bolas was a spanish tapas bar run by one of the most eccentric but hilarious men i have ever met, it is around the corner from the coloured fountains, however any of the Spanish bars on this area and the hill leading down to the balcon de europa are welcoming places and give you the real feel of spain with proper tapas and cheap drinks! Its great to move between them having tapas to start out a night!

  • Whilst only a small area the square and the street adjoining it have a wide selection of bars and a few clubs, there are also a couple of close late night cafes around if you need food! The close proximity of the bars means the are ais filled with people together on the streets in summer and great fun, just watch out for any shifty Spanish teenagers, there is some form of gang with feather earrings, but generally they are friendly unless provoked, just keep an eye out for the earrings! Please dont be put off by them, as they are a tiny minority i na great area, in a week we visited the square 5 nights, look out for the irish bar Maloneys with really friend staff and a pool table, its open as well so you can see across hte whole square. Good for a night out, and not too far a walk from many of the bigger hotels

Casual, just stroll between bars without problems

annies of the irishness: Such a long walk
Fanriffic, always has been, I just love the pic on the wall with all the beer barrels, totaly groovy. Met Elvis in here tis time and he told us of another establishment where music was played, he said it was a long way off but if we paid for the taxi he would guarentee us a night of exotic splendor never before realised in this life time, we said ok. He took us to Nerja Unplugged. It was miles away, by taxi, but stumbling distance on foot. Also in Irish Annies this time, the best acoustic duo I've seen in yonks! Not sure what they were called but dem was fab.

Little green shorts, beards compulsary for ladies.
