Speakeasy: No prohibition at the speakeasy. (Calle Malaga)

British Restaurant/Bar.
An unsual theme is the Chicago styled Speakeasy. Photograghs and posters of a by-gone era of many themes such as film stars, boxing and the prohibition era decorate the bar.

A larger than most bar, it serves a good sellection of food.

Draught beers are John Smiths or San Miguel. A very cosy atmosphere.
Tea and Coffee are served and are both quite popular here, in the comfortable surroundings.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
A bit limited on the conversation side unless you know someone who comes in.
Theme:
Great American prohibition era theme throughout but there's no lack of drinks here.
Opening times:
Lunchtimes and evenings until fairly late.
Disabled notes:
A few steps ate the front and a narrow passage to the toilets need to be noted.

Dress Code: Casual.

The Irish Harp bar: Live at the Harp. (Calle Carabeo)

Pic. from Nerja Essential.

Irish Bar.
A 3-4 piece band plays twice weekly in an up tempo country theme. Usually on a Monday and Thursday night. The quality is good and is well worth a visit. It does get packed so get there early if you want a table.
Also, I've never before seen so many clocks on the wall in a bar.

This bar is very close to the Indian restaurant 'A taste of India', so you could combine a meal with a visit here both being on the same street, Calle Carabeo.

Draught Guinness again is on tap at the. Irish Harp

Good live music on Mondays and Thursdays.

Price range:
Good value for money and the music is free.
Atmosphere:
Very cosy.
Theme:
A comfortable Irish theme with great decor items.
Opening times:
From 7:00 pm until late.
Disabled notes:
There are some steps up to the bar from the street to be aware of for the mobility impaired.

Vinoleto

Spanish Wine & Tapas Bar.
Vinoleto is a fantastic little Spanish wine bar. This bar is smaller than most. (Is that possible ?) But what a great place if you like wine and tapas.
The tapas are very imaginative as well. (Quails eggs in garlic is just one).
Totally run by Spanish girls who will try their limited English if you try your Spanish.

I always feel that we, in England, do not extol enough the magnificent wines of France and Spain often opting for American or Australian types. Since we are part of the EU, let's sing the praises of EU wines.

They do have San Miguel in case you don't drink wine !

Price range:
Very good value for money.
Atmosphere:
A great feeling when in this bar.
Theme:
Typically Spanish wine bar, tastefully decorated.
Opening times:
Some lunchtimes and most nights until quite late. Closed Wednesdays
Disabled notes:
Level access but the bar is a bit small for wheelchairs.

Dress Code: Casual

Bar Okey

Irish Restaurant/Bar.
The Okey is a lovely little Irish bar that serves good food. As is the norm in Nerja, it is a small bar with limited tables and bar stools. It becomes very popular at nightime and gets a trifle warm even in winter.

Yes, they sell draught Guinness !

Price range:
Good value for money on drinks and Excellent value on their food, especially in this higher priced area of town.
Atmosphere:
A busy bar but conversations are good even if space is limited
Theme:
No real theme to this bar.
Opening times:
From 7pm until quite late. ClosedTuesdays
Disabled notes:
Warning for those with walking disabilities, the toilets are upstairs.

British Deli Bar.
Pie in the Sky is an unconventional bar in the fact that it is now a delicatessen first and a bar second.
Stocks of English bacon and sausages can be purchased here although a little pricy.

The Pie in the Sky used to be called "The Black Stuff" for those of you who have an old copy of Nerja Essential or have not been back for a while.

Draught Guinness and San Miguel are on draught.

This bar has just changed ownership November 2005.

This place is handy for dropping into when visiting the market on Tuesdays.

However there are moves afoot to relocate the Tuesday market to an area near El Zoco where the Sunday Car Boot has already gone to, which is right at the top (uphill) end of town (and then some) soon.

Price range:
Drinks are good value for money but food, especially take home food for your fridge/freezer, is a bit over priced.
Atmosphere:
Good conversation.
Theme:
This is a deli bar and is kitted out as such.
Opening times:
From 11am 'til 7pm. Closed Sundays.
Disabled notes:
Level access with large toiets.

Bar El Bosque: The Bosque, sunny terraz (Avenida Castilla Perez)

Pauldelabar 262 reviews
El Bosque (Sorry for poor pic. quality)

British Sports Bar.
The Bosque has a large sunny terrace on the front of the bar which has the sun on it from early morning until after lunchtime and is very popular. One observation is that inside, there seems more room behind the bar than there is this side for customers!

Multi sports can be watched on TV here - at the same time and a horse racing bet may also be placed.

Bar food is also available here. The terrace is a firm favourite and I would advise going early to get a table outside.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Not a great deal of atmosphere but the sunny terrace makes up for it.
Theme:
The bar counter dominates inside. No real theme.
opening hours:
Mid morning until around 1:00pm.
Disabled notes:
Level access.

The picture was part of another of the Acorn so I appologise for the poor quality of the 'blow up' of this part of that picture as this is the only shot I have at present of the bar El Bosque.

Jago's
2 more images

International Cocktail Bar.
Jago's (El Carrillon) is one of the few English bars that opens until late without the nausea of loud music. It is a favourite with other bar owners who unwind there after they have closed their own bar.

Draught Guiness is sold here amongst other beers, and Roger, the owner, specialises in making cocktails as well. The bar is sometimes refered to as "Roger's".

A feature of the bar is the ginger tom cat which virtually lives there, and can be seen wandering around the bar most nights.
The bar also has a pool table for those who like that sort of thing.
Definately a "must go to" bar.
No sport on TV in here though as Roger hates sport. Might be a place to get away from it , however.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
A great place for meeting people and chatting 'til the early hours.
Theme:
Comfortable International, with laid back music.
Opening times:
From 7pm til about 3 or 4am. Closed Wednesdays.
Disabled notes:
Access from the front is level and a wheelchair could easily be got in, (even if the pavements are rather too narrow). Also the toilets are large enough as well.

Sharp's bar.: Sharp's piano bar. (Calle Carabeo)
Pauldelabar profile photo
Pauldelabar 262 reviews

International Bar
Sharp's is a very different type of bar. Tony Sharp only seems to open when he feels like it. The bar has a massive feature of a grand piano but it is never played! The bar is on the sea front and would have a great sea view but it is only open at night! There is a bar counter but there is no draught beer! Only bottled.

However, you will be spell bound by the conversation as Tony can (AND WILL) talk on any and all subjects!

Price range:
Above the average.
Atmosphere:
Absolutely excellent.
Theme:
The piano is a talking point as it is not played due to noise respect for residents living above.
Opening times:
Evenings only until fairly late.
Disabled notes:
Steps down and narrow toilets.

Dress Code: Smart casual.

Irish or Scottish Bar?.
This extra large bar has recently opened on Avenida Mediterraneo. This used to be the old Miramar which was closed for years. It has had a total internal refit and is definately destined to do well.

Although this bar has an Irish sounding name, it is run by a couple from Glasgow!
As 'Slainte' is cheers in Irish and Scottish, 'both' would seem to be the best to say.

Price range:
A little above the average.
Atmosphere:
So big that you will need to take your own company.
Theme:
The theme does not seem to be carried through to the interior.
Opening times:
Lunchtimes and evenings.
Disabled notes
Level access.

Dress Code: Smart Casual.

Outside the Fillmore.

British Music Tapas/Bar.
The Fillmore is a hard to find bar, tucked away in Plaza Ermita. It is well known for live music at least once a week on the terrace at the side.

The bar is an unusual shape owing to a covered stair well making it a square 'U' shape.
It is only a small bar but full of character.

Draught Guinness is available here along with the ubiquitous San Miguel.

Tapas are available.

This bar is currently CLOSED. Hopefully it will find a buyer and open again soon.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Great when there is live music playing.
Theme:
Music pictures and instruments adorn this bar as a theme.
Opening times:
Bar currently CLOSED.
Disabled notes:
Level access but a small bar for wheelchairs.

Dress Code: Very Casual.
