El Molino Bar Tipico: Spanish guitar nights. (Calle San Jose)

Spanish Guitar Bar.
Do visit this Spanish bar for a wonderful evening of music. Guitar music at its best. Not played wholy for the tourist, but for the sheer joy of playing.

You will feel so special when they play without the lights and just with the candles lit for the Icon of the Madonna. It made a tear come to my eye as I was so moved by this.

Price range:
Quite expensive for a Spanish bar but it is in a high price area of town and the music is free.
Atmosphere:
Magical!
Theme:
The best Old style rustic Spanish decor that I have seen.
Opening times:
Evenings until very late.
Disabled notes:
Not wheelchair friendly as there many steps down to the bar.

Dress Code: Smart casual.

Irish Annie's

Irish Bar.
A lovely little bar that again serves the black nectar known as draught Guinness, is Irish Annie's. Tables outside and a sunny location mean that in the height of Summer the bar NEEDS both of its two air conditioning units running at the same time. Spacious and comfortable with a warm welcome are the key words here. And Yes the bar owner's name IS Annie !

Guinness, Amstel and Heiniken are sold here.

Price range:
More expensive than most English bars.
Atmosphere:
Good craic.
Theme:
Great Irish decor throughout.
Opening times:
Lunchtimes and until fairly late at night. Open earlier on Tuesdays for the market.
Disabled notes:
Level access but toilets are quite narrow.

Dress Code: Casual. No beach wear.

The Acorn: Don't go nuts at the Acorn (Avda Castilla Perez)

Inside at the Acorn
1 more image

British Sports Bar.
This is a larger than most Sports bar with several TVs showing various sports activities but with a football bias.
There is also a pool table.
Plenty of windows giving a light and airy feel. The Acorn can get busy on Saturdays and Sundays afternoons.

Guinness and other English beers can be purchased here.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Very sport oriented. So is the conversation.
Theme:
Sporty with England flags adorning the walls and ceilings.
Opening times:
Around 7pm in the week. From mid day on Sat and Sun.
Disabled notes:
A set of steep steps up to this bar so not good for wheelchairs.

Dress Code: Casual

Blanco y Negro: Black and white ? (Calle Pintada)

Entrance up the entry !

Karaoke Bar.
The Blanco y Negro is known by its English name of 'the Black and White, (although it litterally translates to White and Black).

The bar is only open at night time and is a Karaoke bar. (If you like that sort of thing).

Look carefully to find it as it is secluded up a shopfronted entry, although they do put an 'A' frame board outside to direct you.

Price range:
Can't remember. I don't go in there very often.
Atmosphere:
Depends on whether you like Karaoke or not. Can be loud and/or painful to the ears!
Theme
Modern and 'nightclubish'.
Opening times:
About 9pm til late.
Disabled notes:
Not really wheelchair friendly.

Dress Code: Casual

The Smugglers Inn: No redcoats just Smugglers. (Avda Castilla Perez)
Pauldelabar profile photo
Pauldelabar 262 reviews
Pic. from Nerja Essential.

British Cafe/Bar.
Despite the olde worlde name, this is a bright, airy and modern bar. The Smugglers is larger that many bars in Nerja and quite comfortable, having a mezanine level which overlooks the Avenida Castilla Perez and so is ideal for people watching.

Good food is served here.
The Smugglers considers itself as a restaurant as well as a bar.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Not that much unless you bring your own company with you.
Theme:
The inside does NOT carry on the theme of the name of the place. Too modern.
Opening times:
Mid morning until fairly late at night.
Disabled notes:
Not wheelchair friendly as there a flight of steps down to the bar and narrow passage to toilets.

Dress Code: Casual.

Anchor Inn: The Anchor Inn (Calle Ruperto Arduez)

Bar at the Anchor.
3 more images

Irish Bar.
Another bar that is a bit out of the way in Nerja is the Anchor Inn.
It is a pleasant little bar but hardly Irish. Where they got that idea from I do not know. I would have thought a nautical theme might have been more appropriate with the name of The Anchor but they may be just 'climbing on the bandwagon' with the current trend of Irish pubs. As in "Seen one so another must also be good".

Another bar that serves draught Guinness.

Because it is so out of the way on a Calle that you dont HAVE to walk down to get somewhere, they only have a small portion of the trade available. Do pop in and give them some custom if you're in that part of town.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Good conversations but the place only livens up later.
Theme:
An odd mixture of nautical and Irish.
Opening times:
From 7pm daily.
Disabled notes:
Not really suitable for wheelchairs.

Dress Code: Casual

D.B's.

British Sports Bar.
D.B.'s is really the name of this place. The letters stand for certain parts of the reproductive anatomy of a dog! , as the wall mural on your right as you go in will clarify.

They have several TV screens including a big screen.

You can get draught Guinness here too amongst other beers.

A horse racing bet can be placed here at lunchtimes.

It is quieter at lunchtimes than evenings, when it can get rather busy. It is also one of the larger bars in Nerja. It has a terrace outside at the rear but I cannot comment on this as I have not seen that part of the bar as of yet.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Basic sports bar so bring your own company.
Theme:
No specific theme for this large Sports bar.
Opening hours:
Mid morning until around 1:00am.
Disabled notes:
Level access with large toilets.

Dress Code: Casual

British Sports Bar.
Sports, especially motor racing, on TV at the Barbados (If you like that sort of thing). The observant of you will have noticed the Formula 1 posters and the model cars as part of the decor as Mark is devoted to motor racing.

Free nibbles on the bar.

Draught Guinness, Carling Black Label served here.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Cosy.
Theme:
Motor racing theme throughout.
Opening hours:

Now. After refit.

British Bar.
A small but bright and airy little bar. This bar has changed out of all recognition to what it used to look like. Whether that is for the better or worse, you will have to make your own mind up. How many of you remember the days of the beamed ceiling and the spiral stairs by the entrance door and the fridge in the front window?

Price range:
Unknown at this time.
Atmosphere:
Seems to have lost a lot of character.
Theme:
Wine bar style.
Opening times:
Closed all day on SATURDAYS.
Disabled notes:
Level access and wheelchair friendly toilets.

Outside Blue Lagoon

International Bar.
A warm welcome awaits you if you drop in to the Blue Lagoon. Try the breakfast - served until 6pm. for just €4. Other snacks are available too.

In good weather you can sit outside at the pavement tables. (Too hot for me in summer). Or chat at the bar.

Although Guinness is served here it is in cans but only €3 a can and you can guarantee it's in good condition. Also San Miguel on draught and all the usual spirits.

Sky TV helps keep you up with the news etc. back mome.

For a limited time, bottles of San Miguel are on offer at just €1 where they normally retail at anything between €1.30 to €3.00, depending upon the bar and its location in Nerja.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Good conversation and cosy.
Theme:
Predominantly blue decor.
Opening times:
From 11am until around 8pm and closed Mondays at present.
Disabled notes:
Warning ! Steep set of four steps up to the bar - not wheelchair friendly. As poor Clare, the bar owner at the time, found out when she broke her ankle at home at Christmas time.

This bar has recently CHANGED OWNERSHIP August 2005.

Dress Code: Casual but shirts must be worn inside.
