Gazpacho Soup by amapola66 We ate in this stylish and spotlessly clean restaurant and it was most enjoyable. The food was good, beautifully and creatively presented. Their gazpacho (a cold, Spanish soup which is very refreshing), was particularly wonderful . We noticed the tapas looked particularly good and returned the following day, for lunch in the bar and we weren't dissappointed. When we return to Nerja, Casa Luque will definitely be a regular lunch spot, although evening dining is a little more expensive. Put this on your Nerja restaurant list for a spceial meal out, in your nicer clothes. In warm weather there is a lovely garden overlooking the sea. Sunny patio in summer - heated in winter by Bwana_Brown, 3 more photos Because Nerja came to our rescue twice when we were looking for a place to spend a night or two, combined with the fact that we so enjoyed our three evening meals at Bar El Bosque, this little seaside town will always be one of our favourite memories of Andalusia. The El Bosque is actually a British-themed sports pub with large TVs mounted around its inside walls and is quite popular in the summer with its small streetside patio. As you can see from the photo, it did not look too attractive in winter with a seasonal heated canopy covering that part of the sidewalk. We walked through it into the dark bar area itself, picking the same corner spot each time. On our first visit we did not say much as we listened to the nearby patrons talking away with a strong British accent. Returning to the same spot a few nights later after our Atlantic coast adventures, the same couple was in the same spot. We ended up having great conversations with them and again the following evening. The guy turned out to be a Yorkshireman who had been a coal miner all his life and then retired several years ago at age 49, now spending his winters in Nerja as part of the British 'diaspora'.
The bartender was a big friendly fellow who knew what he was doing (2nd photo) and his female counterpart, Adele, was apparently famous as a cook at a nearby establishment called the Crazy Cow. We tried some of her dishes there at El Bosque and they were fantastic. Our first one was a shared plate of creamy Afghan curry called 'Shoarma' served with rice, very tasty and with just the right amount of spice (3rd photo - no flash). We enjoyed the same dish just as much the second time when we returned after our little hiatus. On our third night, Adele, who interacted with these regular customers of hers that we were sitting with, suggested we try her Indonesian platter (4th photo). It contained a medley of chicken satay in peanut sauce, spring rolls, rice and a piquant salad for 7.50 Euros and was every bit as good as the curry meals. By the time our evening ended two glasses of wine and two Guinness beers later, the total bill was only 20 Euros ($US26). We always left Bar El Bosque with a smile on our faces as we made the short downhill walk back to Hostal Marazul! The Infamous Ayo's by amapola66 Burriana beach is lined with beachside restaurants, the most famous being Ayo's, who provide the vision of Paella being cooked in huge pans over open log fires, catering for up to 100 people at a time. Spanish families flock here on Sunday lunchtimes. Ayo himself has become something of a celebrity having been featured on holiday programmes. He is always happy to have a chat about the cooking of paella and apparently, was one of the original young lads to discover the Caves of Nerja. It is open during the whole year, from the morning until the evening. An experience not to be missed.
Paella (pronounced 'pie-ell-ya' in phonic English !) - can come in different varieties. I usually opt for a seafood paella. It is delicious and very filling. A portion costs just €4.80 There is also a reasonably priced menu for other Spanish food. Leave a Comment

It was a cool and windy spot even at noon by Bwana_Brown, 1 more photos After working our way up through the convoluted streets of Cómpeta we just happened to find an open parking space almost in front of the Hotel Balcon de Cómpeta. From there, we took a short stroll into the maze of streets but quickly ended up spending an hour in an internet cafe we chanced upon, catching up on our messages. By 12:30 PM, after making our way past a few closed restaurants, we ended up back at the hotel and decided to give their outdoor rear patio seating a go. It turned out that they were open for meals, so we picked a spot in their almost deserted seating area that had a good view of the town below . Although sunny, it was the coldest I felt while in Spain with a strong and chilly wind blowing - but we refused to give up our view!
While waiting for our food orders to appear, we enjoyed gazing over Cómpeta as we sipped on drinks of white wine for Sue and a glass of San Miguel beer for me. We both thought some hot food would help to warm us up, so Sue ordered a Vegetable Pasty (7 E) while I ended up with a combination of a large bowl of Vegetable soup (4 E), a plate of garlic Prawns Pil-Pil (4E) and a large hunk of bread. They must have started the Pasty from scratch because it took forever to come (and was delcious when it did) so we shared my soup and prawns in the meantime. We took our time just enjoying sitting still with such a great view, and the weather warmed up a bit as the day wore on, while I sipped on a second beer to help wash the meal down. Our total bill came to 25 Euros (US$35) before the tip. The waiter was friendly and efficient and a few other customers began to show up as we neared the end of our meal. With the intermittant rain showers we had in Nerja, it was very convenient that Hostal Marazul had an attached cafe/restaurant at ground level. Enclosed in a large plastic weather-proof arrangement attached to the main building, and taking up part of the sidewalk, it also was where the check-in/out activities took place. It seemed to have it's crowd of English 'regulars' whenever we ate there, particularly a long-haired older English gentleman who always sat in the same place and had a large mug of beer for breakfast while he smoked. He was never in much of a hurry.
We also ate all three of our breakfasts in Nerja there - with our first visit consisting of toasted ham & cheese 'mixtos' (2.50 Euros each) washed down by the local con leche coffee with milk and sugar added to taste (0.70 Euros). Our last two breakfasts when we returned three days later consisted of the same drinks but we had switched to toasted buns with jelly for about the same price. The enclosure was not totally air-tight, with the result being that the local Sparrow population was able to infiltrate and would lurk at an adjoining table ready to pounce on wayward pieces of bread at any second (2nd and 3rd photos)! The restaurant had a good selection of dishes - we just normally keep breakfasts quite simple. Temporary picture by Pauldelabar Spanish Restaurant I cannot comment on the food here as I only popped in for a drink. But every night (winter) the restaurant seemed very busy. You get a propper Spanish flavour at this place with the hams hanging up (and not just for show). The decor is very Adalucian. and very comfortable looking. Beer here is Alhambra - Very nice.
As I say, I only popped in for a drink but a very nice few glasses of Alhambra beer was consumed. Disabled notes: Steps inside. Not good for wheelchairs. Tapas by amapola66 Frequented by locals and tourists alike, you will find the Round Bar in the old part of town on Calle Glora . It is a great Andalucian bistro type place serving value for money good quality food. Often, if you just call in for a drink you can be served with a complimentary Tapas. Sometimes,we just intended to pop in for a quick beer, but the tapas (set around a circular bar) were just too tempting and we stayed much longer. Although obviously contemporary in decor, this bar reminds me of old Spanish style place in the way that you are charged a rough amount for what you have eaten or drunk.. A beer is the price of a beer, but when you start eating the tapas, the price of the beer seems to go down, (or quite often, completely disappear)! Our bills were always unexpectably low here. A good variety of tapas were available, for veggy, fish or meat eaters alike, and much to my delight, they nearly always had 'Boquerones Fritos' available - Yum! Dishes are typically available in different sizes, tapa or raciones or a large plate. Recommended, (although, as it was so busy in May, I expect the summer could be rather hard to grab a stool).
Boquerones (fried, not in vinegar) and often hard to find elsewhere. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Calle GloriaPhone: Telephone 952 52 4974Directions: Old town.

At last, I remembered the name of the place. This is one of our favourite restaurants in Nerja and a place where you can eat with the locals. When the Small Person was even smaller, 'Antonio' popped her into a high chair in the kitchen with his own brood of small people, so we could enjoy our meal in peace (She was in full view of us, but with other small people, so she wasn't bored). Fantastic! She was dutifully brought back (smiling away) happily, for deserts. Natuarally, I like Spanish food and this place does great tapas. It is also reasonably priced. A Taste of India by Pauldelabar Indian Restaurant An excellent menu sellection in comfortable surroundings. There is a patio to eat outside in warmer weather. You don't feel crammed in. There is ample space between tables. The food is very good and moderately priced. I eat there a lot and could recommend it to anyone who likes Indian food. Fully licensed.
Chicken Dupiaza is my favourite dish, but all the other meals I have had there are eqally as good. Booking in advance is not usually necessary, but this is a popular restaurant.
