Hotel Balcon de Cómpeta: Difficult to beat the view!

It was a cool and windy spot even at noon

After working our way up through the convoluted streets of Cómpeta we just happened to find an open parking space almost in front of the Hotel Balcon de Cómpeta. From there, we took a short stroll into the maze of streets but quickly ended up spending an hour in an internet cafe we chanced upon, catching up on our messages. By 12:30 PM, after making our way past a few closed restaurants, we ended up back at the hotel and decided to give their outdoor rear patio seating a go. It turned out that they were open for meals, so we picked a spot in their almost deserted seating area that had a good view of the town below . Although sunny, it was the coldest I felt while in Spain with a strong and chilly wind blowing - but we refused to give up our view!

Favorite Dish: While waiting for our food orders to appear, we enjoyed gazing over Cómpeta as we sipped on drinks of white wine for Sue and a glass of San Miguel beer for me. We both thought some hot food would help to warm us up, so Sue ordered a Vegetable Pasty (7 E) while I ended up with a combination of a large bowl of Vegetable soup (4 E), a plate of garlic Prawns Pil-Pil (4E) and a large hunk of bread. They must have started the Pasty from scratch because it took forever to come (and was delcious when it did) so we shared my soup and prawns in the meantime. We took our time just enjoying sitting still with such a great view, and the weather warmed up a bit as the day wore on, while I sipped on a second beer to help wash the meal down. Our total bill came to 25 Euros (US$35) before the tip. The waiter was friendly and efficient and a few other customers began to show up as we neared the end of our meal.

Blarney Stone Pub: Great Food and Friendly Ambience!

Came across this little treasure by accident. Tucked away beside the Hotel Jimesol on Calle Chaparil, this is a true Irish pub with a veritable Irish proprietor, Martin, who hails from Cork City. I was told that the Chef, Sharron, had been on board since the beginning of May so I didn't really expect much (I was there mid-May). Was I wrong! Her tapas is excellent...some of the best I'd had since I arrived in Nerja. She also makes her own vinaigrettes which are light and flavorful. All her portions are generous and well presented. The ingredients were very fresh. I ordered the fish n' chips and expected to be served a greasy meal. Wrong again! The batter (made with Guinness) was crisp and light and the chips were also crisp and were straight from the spud and not the freezer! Desserts looked very tasty, but I'll have to try them on my next trip. Sharron's enthusiasm and passion for food and her vibrant personality combined with Martin's quiet warmth and friendliness make this little pub a must place to dine and enjoy the chat and music. The pub also caters to Irish weddings with sit-down or buffet style meals. With advance notice, they will also serve breakfast for small groups or a crowd. I liked the energy and the friendly, comfortable ambience of the place. Friends and strangers alike would walk in off the street to a warm welcome. Dined there three times and was very pleased with each meal. Thank you, Martin and Sharron!

Favorite Dish: Have to say the Fish n' Chips. I was so surprised by the light, crispy batter and that the chips were real potatoes. Had tapas on two occasions and loved it both times.

tucked away behind the prom at the lighthouse end of the beach at torrox costa. very intimate and friendly. ran by an englishman and his swedish partner.all of the food is home cooked and fresh. the owners are very friendly and interacted with the clients, we must of spent an hour chatting about diferent things. as i have said all of the food is fresh and the menu extensive, inc specials of the day etc, a must visit if you are in torrox.

Favorite Dish: i had fillet steak in a wild mushroom sauce, the steak was not small by any means, and the fresh veg were great, followed by apple pie and real custard (i know im a bit boring, but i love my trad puds) there were many more exotic choices right acroos the menu

A small restaurant run by a Dutch couple who spent a lot of time in Thailand ,which has influenced their cooking. Meals are freshly prepared, delicious and incredibly cheap. 8 Thai fishcakes with 2 dipping sauces for 4 euro. They were gorgeous. We only found it on our last night otherwise I could comment on other dishes. We will return to Nerja and definitely to this address! The house white wine was only 8 Euro and very palatable.SORRY GUYS WHEN BACK IN NERJA RECENTLY(MAY2008) SADLY DISCOVERED RESTAURANT DID NOT SURVIVE THE WINTER...VERY SAD AS IT WAS REALLY GOOD..AH WELL RESEARCH WILL CONTINUE !!

White Truffle: The Pork leg is huge

Lovely ambience. Youare invited to sit on comfy couches to lookat the menu beside lovely cuddly toys! Prices are reasonable. I started with a tasy Mushroom Risotto followed by herb crusted rack of Lamb.Mint sauce offered. The thyme was from their own garden. The dish was tasty and there was a vast amount of meat! My wife had soup ,fresh and tasty followed by the pork knuckle. It was huge and carved by the chef at the table, plenty of crackling and succulent pork. She was unable to finish it. Apple sauce provided. UPDATE back in Nerja in May 2008...Restaurant has changed hands...VERDICT....good but different

Favorite Dish: Definitely try the Pork or Lamb. Service is naturally relaxed as all dishes are freshly prepared. The two ladies who run the restaraunt are charming and friendly. We tried to return but it was closed for a few days holidays....well deserved.

One of Placido's restaurants is the REDONDO ROUND BAR. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, the Redondo features Tapas set in dishes around a circular bar with cozy booths surrounding the bar. The Tapas looked and smelled delicious.

White Truffle Restaurant

Fabulous food as well as a first class presentation. All dishes are properly plated and the food is fresh and good. Servers are friendly and very efficient. A little off the main drag but very easy to find and only a ten minute stroll from the Balcon De Europa. This restaurant was started in October 2006 by two British ladies that are doing an outstanding job at providing a wonderful dining experience at a fair price. We ate there two nights on a three night stay in Nerja and almost went back the third night, but had a craving for pizza. We were really made to feel comfortable and the ambiance was very friendly.

Favorite Dish: Had the three course menu of the day that was a fine mixed salad, chicken fettucini, and choice of dessert. Second time we tried the Sunday lunch special and chose an avocado w/blue cheese, roast of pork, roasted new potatoes and a dessert. It was all very tasty and the prices weere incredibly low considering the quality of food, service and ambiance. The meals came with warm bread and a free brandy presented with the check. Prices were 13 Euro each not including the wine. Check out this place, you won't be sorry.

Sevillano's: A Tight Fit, But Worth It!

In a great location just past the round bar, this is a great little place to eat, which gets very busy. We struggled to get a table for 2, all tables outside & upstairs on the balcony were taken - however they did accommodate us just next to the bar, on a little table sort of squeezed in there. Normally this would tick me off a little bit, however the place was so cosy, warm, convivial, friendly staff, great service & great food.

La 4 Esquinos Cafe: Best Churros and Coffee in Town

jaygee 35 reviews

The churros in La 4 Esquinos Café are the best in Nerja. The hot chocolate is divine, extremely thick and chocolately. The coffee is pretty good too.

This café is well used by Spanish locals and Spanish tourists providing a noisy but great atmosphere.

It's also very cheap. The churros are served up to 12.00 noon.

Favorite Dish: Churros and hot chocolate.
