Malaga is the nearest Airport to get to Nerja.
Contrary to popular belief that you can smoke just about anywhere in Spain, Malaga Airport is mainly - NO SMOKING - with designated smoking areas.
If you are extremely thirsty there is a bar close to the exit (See the map photo) where you can get an alcoholic or non alcoholic drink and smoke if you wish.
Once you have gone through passport control and collected your luggage you will see the exit doors. If you are catching the 19 bus to the coach station, (and then the coach to Nerja), go through these doors and turn right. The 19 bus stop is about 30m along and the 19 runs half hourly.

For just 90 centimos one way, you can catch the green and cream bus to the picturesque villiage of Frigiliana.
Journey time is about 15 - 20 minutes.
Buses run from Nerja from 07.20 until 20.30 (8.30pm) Mondays to Saturdays ONLY
Buses back from Frigiliana run from 07.00 until 21.00 (9.00pm) Mondays to Saturdays ONLY. NO BUSES ON SUNDAYS..
Frigiliana is up in the mountains and the views are spectacular. Market day is Wednesday and there are bars, plenty of shops and a decent restaurant.
Make sure you try the Frigiliana wine.
Fares for this bus are payable to the driver.
Note: Frigiliana may be unsuitable for wheelchair users as the streets are very steep with frequent steps.

Another way to see Nerja is by Landau. This is a horse drawn carriage and can be found down at the balcon de Europa. The driver will take you anywhere you want to go or give you a circular tour of the town.
Drawback :
Not cheap. Expect to pay between €20 - €25 for the ride.

I wrote this article before becoming a member but I must write it again as it is an important part of transportation concerning Nerja.
The Nr. 19 bus takes you from the airport to Malaga coach station. Runs every half hour. Fare €1. Takes about 15 minutes
From the coach station you book at the Alsina Graells office to Nerja. Current cost €3.60. Takes about 1.25 hours.
The time of the coach is printed on the ticket and the ultimate destination.
Warning !! You stow your own cases in the luggage section below the floor. This may also mean opening and closing the luggage compartment doors.
I recommend using these services for, although a taxi direct to Nerja sounds more appealing than having to change from bus to coach, a taxi will cost between €60 and €80.
If travelling from Nerja, there is a ticket office adjacent to the coach 'dock' of a portakabin style construction where you must buy your ticket for your journey (not on the coach). They understand English very well, but if you want to try your Spanish; Ida Solo means one way and Ida y Vuelta is out AND return.

A: At this time of the year. most of the larger supermarkets have a space allocated to " outside" furniture so that may be the best place to head for.
