This is not maybe the typical kind of "Off the Beaten Path" tip, but I consider it important.
Everywhere is said that people in the south of Spain are very friendly. Even when Spaniards languajes skills are not very good, they will try try for sure to help you if you require it.
You just only have to ask.
I use to be a voluntary in a tourist information organization. Before there was four information points in the center of the city, located in "Puerta de Jerez", "Plaza Nueva", in front of the Cid statue ("Glorieta San Diego") and in "Plaza Don Juan de Austria".
They give you free information about the city, hotels, restaurants, free maps and whatever they could do for you. Sometimes, after working I even met with some of the tourist I helped.
