PLAZA DE TOROS DE LA MAESTRANZA

Bull fighting season starts in April & ends October. This is the arcaded arena of the PLAZA DE TOROS DE LA MAESTRANZA at Paseo del Cristoal Colon. (Hm, I always wonder: Why are all the names exceptionally long in Spain?). Built between 1761-1881, it is one of the most magnificent in Spain. The arena, I was told, can hold up to 14000 spectators! Next to this arena is the TEATRO DE LA MAESTRANZA, Seville's opera house.

Seville's bull-ring is a beautiful structure and a guided tour is well worth the 500PTAs. The guide I had was excellent, speaking three languages and being full of information. Although I would never go to a bull-fight, I think it is important to learn about this aspect of Spanish culture. There is a lot of history to be seen in the well laid out museum and the carefully combed stadium 'floor' itself is a sight to see. Go along with an open mind to learn a little bit about Spanish culture - it'll be a well spent 30 minutes.
