Why there is an Olympic Stadium in Seville? It could be the question that anybody could have thinking that Seville never hosted a Olympic Game. This huge stadium was built in 1999 because the town tried to be an olympic city for 2004, 2008 and 2012 games. Finally, Seville has decline to pretend the Olympic games any more after three IOC refusal and the Madrid candidature. At least the stadium hosted the Athletics World Championships in 1999 and the Davis Cup final in 2004 between Spain and the United States... and we won! ¡y ganamos nosotros! Leave a Comment

Sevilla FC (Soccer Team) by Krystynn The world's most recognized sport - yes, football or soccer (to you - the American). If you're a fan of Sevilla Futbol Club S.A.D., you'd be happy to know that you can catch your favorite team compete for Spain's most coveted soccer trophy every weekend. Me? Which team do I support? Honestly speaking, I don't really support any teams in the La Liga. But when I do tune in to the La Liga matches, I normally cheer for the underdogs... I'm allergic to Real Madrid and Barcelona FC. I find these teams too cocky. Now, I'll surely be banned from visiting Madrid and Barcelona - ever again! In the 2002/2003 football season when Real Sociedad was suddenly flying high in the La Liga, I was actually cheering on for them. Sadly, they lost their last match of the season and the multi-millionaire players of Real Madrid grabbed the trophy - AGAIN. :-( Will any Spanish team be game enough to beat Madrid? If Sevilla can beat Madrid, I'll support this team for sure! ;-)) For the 2003/2004 season, I'll be rooting for Valencia. :-D That's because Real Sociedad is doing so badly at the current moment. But then again, the results might change towards the final quarter! Incidentally, I am an ardent supporter of AC Milan who plays in the Serie A (the Italian domestic league).

by acemj The Plaza de Toros Real Maestranza (or just La Maestranza for short) is Sevilla's bullring and it is one of the most beautiful rings in Spain. The museum inside is very interesting and the bilingual tour is very educational and not too long (around 30-40 minutes. The tour guide took us into the ring itself and described the significance of the gates and the seating. One of the gates is for the matadors, another is for the bulls and another is for removing the dead or dying bulls. See my travelogues ("Odds and Ends" and "Random Photos" for more photos and info). Then our guide showed us the museum, the matador's chapel and the horse stables. Most people (especially the men) in Seville are big football/soccer fans. Whenever Seville's team is playing, there are groups of people all over the streets wearing the team colours, waving banners, getting drunk, and acting rowdy. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports Watching
