Mijas - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

One of Andalucia's 'White Villages', it is located near Fuengirola in Malaga Province. The center of the village retains much of it's character, but its borders have many new villas. Worth a visit, but not the best of the white villages.

Nerja - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

A coastal resort, east of Malaga. It's popular with package holidays from the UK. Night life in the summer months is good, but to me it does not offer too much. It does have some interesting caves and a viaduct a little outside the town, and just a few miles inland from Nerja is the beautiful white village of Frigiliana (a must visit if you are in the area). All this said it's a popular place with holiday makers, is much more quiet than the resorts west of Malaga and beaches are not so crowded.

Tip Photo
Puerto Banus - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

Puerto Banus is famed throughout the world for being the district of Marbella, frequented by the rich and famous. It's marina is an indication of this, I dont think you will see such a huge collection of yatchs anywhere else in the world. But dont let this put you off if you are in the area, the nightlife is good and not as expensive as you would imagine. It also has a great shopping complex.

Tip Photo
Sevilla - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

Sevilla is the gem in the crown of Andalucia, or of all of Spain for that matter. In this short paragraph I could not describe its many wonders. The home of Flamenco and with one of the most fascinating histories any city could have, it's buildings are testament to this. Sevilla has been affected by every group of Meditteranean peoples that have had an influence on Spain. All I can say is go an experience Sevilla, you will not be disappointed.

Tip Photo
Tarifa - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

Located in the south of Andalucia in the province of Algeciras. Tarifa is known as the windy city due to exposure to to the Atlantic winds. As a result much of the area is used for watersports and aerial sports. It also has an interesting history being one of the last areas captured from the Moors and has many representative buildings from this period. Tthe beaches to the west are spectacular in their scenery and cleandliness. Also a good point from which to pop across on a short trip to Morroco, with a high speed ferry crossing. For more information please visit my Tarifa page..

the Gardens

by pepples46

or Generalife, around the Alhambra, roughly translated 'garden of paradise or gardens of feast"at Generallife, the water plays out its full potential. beautiful ponds and fountains in harmony with Cypres and Palm trees as well as general plants and shrubs. though its very dry in Andalucia, these Gardens are amazingly cared for and welcome anybody.on the road, is a different kettle of fish. nonetheless, always good for a break and a picnic in the shade of an old castle.this brought back my childhood memories from an other place I know so well, Maria Laach, Monestary and Basilika, from the same era architecture and Lions Fountain a similare Paradise

Tip Photo
Medina Sidonia - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

I was very impressed when I visited this white town, there was so much to explore and yet is very much off the main tourist route. Its history runs from the Roman, Visigoths or Iberians, the Moors and after the reconquest the Christians to the present day. Its Architecture reflects this, and there is much to see. But I think what for me made this different from many of the other Andalucian towns I have visited is the remarkably well preserved Roman Roadway and sewers. You can see more of my day here on my Medina Sidonia page.

Tip Photo
Cadiz - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

Cadiz is reputed to be Europes oldest inhabited city, its time dates back to the Pheonecians who established it in 1,100 BC.As a city Cadiz has so much to offer the tourist, if you are in the area plan to spend at least a day here. The city came into its own during the 17th century when it was the main port for ships trading with the America´s. Its history though does go back much further. I think the highlight of my day here was a trip up the Torre Tavira tower, it offered a panoramic view of the city, along with views through a Camera Obscura. The recently renovated city fortifications are also very much worth visiting. You can see more of my day here on my Cadiz page.

Tip Photo
Arcos de La Frontera - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

Arcos de la Frontera is a town built for defence at the top of a steep cliff. Maybe not as spectacular in photographs as Ronda, but until you actually visit and realise the scale it may not look impressive. I can assure you it is. It´s history is similar to many Andalucian towns, it came into it´s own during the occupation of the moors and continued through the conquest until the present day. There is enough to keep you occupied here for a full day, and over the past few years has become a favourite with tourists visiting the area. For more information on my visit here, please visit my Arcos de la Frontera page.

Tip Photo
Vejer de la Frontera - Andalucia

by Beach_dog

Another quaint white town with a lot of history attatched to it. Vejer de la Frontera has old arabic walls and gates, interesting churches and even windmills. From the town you get great views of some of the surrounding coutryside from its hilltop location. Certainly worth visiting if you are in Cadiz province.I have more information on my Vejer de la Frontera page.
