Torre del Mar is actually a neighborhood of Velez Malaga, a town 4 kilometres away. Locals asked to the National Government to obtein their independence and to have their own mayor and town hall. Recently a Supreme Court sentence denied them their petition.
There is more to Torre del Mar than the beach. I found it interesting enough just wandering around town or along the coast.
Many of the local restaurants get their fish from the coastal area around Torre del Mar.
It was perfectly safe to walk around the town, even late at night. Some of the locals advised me to be careful after dark but I never encountered any problems.
The lunch was very tasty and the most important was that they brought everything in 3-4 minutes something that seemed to be very strange due to the fact that in all the other cities in Spain we had to wait a lot of time to bring us what we ordered.
Favorite thing: We stayed in Torre del Mar about 1 1/2 and when we were ready to leave to go to Nerja a friend of us called us to tell us that he was leaving so we had to go back to Malaga, to the airport. This means that we never saw Nerja.
Favorite thing: Wwe loved the place although it seems to be very calm(to be honest I don't know what happens during the night).
