what you will typically find at local restaurants

    Hi Visitors,
I just arrived home from a week in Torremolinos. Let me tell you that I was apprehensive about what would be available, but this city has a variety of food for every taste. If you take the walkway/steps, long steps, down to the beach you will find some affordable meals such as roast chicken take away, pizza, etc. Its nice to have all the trimmings as well as a main entree, but remember that Europe can be expensive. Down at the beach there is this great restaurant that serves Ben & Jerry's icecream but also serves delicious pasta, sandwiches, pizza, etc. The atmosphere was great with lovely music playing, Euro sports on the tele, and a nice view for people watching. The staff was also friendly too. There are also little shops that serve empanadas, small baguettes, and bars with tapas. My favorite place to eat was the pastry cafes because you cannot find these types of pastries in America and darling drinks. Another was this place across the street of the Mercado that had takeaway empanads that were double the size you would find in USA and for only two Euros-- tasted heavenly. Mind your budget, enjoy the local delicacies not just McDonald's or Burger King, and enjoy your stay:-) Also, there is a local grocery store called a Mercado which you can buy fresh seafood, meats, veggies, juices, breads-- so you'll be just find in this wonderful town. Lastly, they post pictures of the food on menus as well as outside the restaurants so you know what you will get and sometimes the price too.

Favorite Dish: I love the pastry shops fruit tarts, and hot teas. We, also, bought frozen spanish rice that was delicious from the Mercado and their bread rolls were great too. Remember to buy water to drink from the grocery store.

BAR RESTAURANTE --THE FLYING DUTCHMAN: TAKE A COFFEE BREAK

by LoriPori Written Feb 24, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The Flying Dutchman

It is an absolute tradition with us, to stop at THE FLYING DUTCHMAN for a coffee and appelkebok ( Dutch apple pie ) whenever we go on our walks along the Promenada. I know! I know! We do all that walking and then we sit down and have apple pie with, of course slaagrom ( whipped cream ). Naughty! Naughty! But ohhhhh so good. For 2,50 Euro we get a good cup of coffee and a generous portion of delicious apple pie. And we usually slowly sip our coffee while we sit on the terrace and enjoy the wonderful views of the Playa ( Beach ) and people watch. You shouldn't be in a hurry. After all, you are in the Costa del Sol - on vacation! Enjoy!

Favorite Dish: Though we usually just go there for coffee and appelkebok, we have had lunches there too. We usually check out if there is any lunch specials, which there usually is. The waiters are always a lot of fun and Hansi can show off and talk Dutch to them.

RESTAURANTE CASA FRANCO: HOME MADE MEALS

by LoriPori Updated Feb 15, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Restaurante Casa Franco

Not too far from the Sol Principe, there is a lovely beach side restaurant RESTAURANTE CASA FRANCO. It was a bright, cheery and clean place offering home made meal and desserts. We stopped in for a little bite to eat, while we were walking along the promenade. We tried a fish dish which consisted of bocherones, a small variety which is cooked in virgin olive oil and lemon. Absolutely delicious. Another of their specialties was Paella, which of course is known as the traditional dish of Spain. It is based on rice accompanied by meats, shellfish and vegetables.
Outside, the cook had several sardines place on a skewer and cooked over a wood fire. This dish is very popular and is known as an "Espeto de sardinas".

We had the pleasure of eating at the GRAND CAFE' HET HOF not only once but twice. Both times we took advantage of the special they had on ( only until the end of March ). The first time we went with Hans' brother Wim, when he was in Torremolinos on a visit with us ( Jan. 17).
All three of us had the l4.50 Euro Special which included your choice of Appetizer, Choice of Entree and your dessert.
The second time we brought Carmen and Stace with us as we had raved to them how good it was. ( Feb. 5 )

Favorite Dish: The first visit, Hans had Sate with peanut butter sauce and I had the ribs. Both were absolutely delicious.
When we went with Carmen and Stace, we all had the ribs. Along with the main menu, we were also given a bowl of french fries, carrots and a salad plate. We all agreed it was excellent value and our waiter Ernest was awesome.

El Velero: Nice open air restaurant on the beach

Fantastic open air restaurant with many local and other european dishes available. Service is fast and friendly, place is immaculate and location is perfect. The Spanish music they play in there is so relaxing while the view is equally relaxing. Pricing was reasonable with the sardines only coming to 5 Euros.

Favorite Dish: Grilled sardines, the sardines are marinated and served with half a lemon and a bread role with butter. With a squeeze of the lemon and the bread it makes the perfect mid afternoon snack after a stroll along the beachfront.

    Golden Curry: Indian

by zizkov Updated May 5, 2003

Indian similar (though not identical) to UK style Indian - good choice, good vegetarian range. Fairly plush. Upstairs, has outdoor balcony seating. For other vegetarian choices (though I did not eat there) try The Red Parrot - English pub with a more advanced menu than most of them.

The Restaurant is open all through the day, but closed in the evenings due to the bad weather.

    Seafront Restaurant

There are a great number of local Restaurants along the sea front (Paseo Maritimo). Most seem to have similar meals, and prices are also similar. when we were there, and due to the unseasonally bad weather, many Restaurants closed early, and others had few customers. The one in the photo was good value, and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Favorite Dish: we all had Rump Steak and chips, with wine or beer. Icecreams for afters. I would go there again.
