    Cable Cars

by keeweechic Written Aug 8, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The cable car rises up around 700 metres to the Calamorro Peak. The journey takes around 12 mins in a car which takes 4 people. The view from the top is spectacular and on a clear day can stretch down as far as Gibraltar and across to Morocco and the Rif Mountains. You can walk the distance to the cable car station just behind Tivoli Amusement Park.. At the top there is a café.

    The bus
    1 more image

I did not try it but many other seniors staying extra weeks where we were told me that they had no difficulty going into Malaga and other place by the bus. It departs from the central plaza in the upper town. I put this in because no one has done so and these individuals were not adventurous travellers. I did not have time to get the details but our on site guides knew exactly how to do it.

If walking is not your thing for whatever reason, there are buses which will take you around both Torremolinos and neighbouring areas including Malaga, Ronda, Marbella, Estepona as well as far as Granada and Tarifa. The main bus station is at Calle Hoyo and the Portillo Bus Company travels just about everywhere on the Costa del Sol.

    By Air

If travelling by air you will most likely fly into Malaga Airport which is only around 7kms for Torremolinos. The airport supports flights internally from Spain as well as around all of Europe. Taxi’s can then take you from Malaga’s airport to your hotel in Torremolinos. The rate is fixed with an airport surcharge. There are also hotel shuttle buses operating.

Torremolinos has a small airport but this is used mainly for charter flights.

Trains travel from Malaga’s main train station on a regular basis. There are also trains running from the airport between the hours of 6.15am and 10.43pm. You can also take a 3 hour train ride from Madrid.

The main arterial road through Torremolinos from the Northeast is Calle Hoya which then becomes Avnida Palma de Mallorca.

From Malaga, take the N-340/E-15, Marbella take N-240/E-15.
Madrid is 550kms to the north via E5, E15 and E902.

    Getting Around

Getting around Torremolinos is much easier than I imagined just from reading the tourist books. Walking is they key although you will find in some areas quite a lot of steps to negotiate. Some are not too bad if you are stopping at the shops along the way, you can take your time.

    Malaga airport

The fastest way to get to Torremolinos is to take a plane to Malaga airport. With the regional train it takes only about 15minutes to reach Torremolinos.
