There are long distance trains arriving from Leon, Alicante, Barcelona, and Madrid-Chamartin, all of which also stop in Oviedo also. Local trains run on the lines from Oviedo, Pte. Fierros and Pola de Lena. The local lines run from around 6:00 to 23:30 (11:30 pm). I guess there are buses too, but I don't have that info. Flights are also available from Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife Sur, Ibiza, London, Paris and Monastir(?). Not all flights are available all days.

By plane: the airport of Asturias is 40km from Gijón, ALSA-busses go back and forth.
By train: there are train stations of RENFE (public) and FEVE (private company), that belong to different train networks and therefore go to different cities.
By bus: busses of the Asturian ALSA-company go almost all over Spain
