    Sueve Mountains

by karenincalifornia Written Jul 27, 2007

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The most popular mountains for hikes in Asturias are the Picos de Europa, but the Sueve Mountains, to the west are equally beautiful. Not as well known as the Picos, they are far less crowded, especially in the summer. The Sueve mountains are a separate mountain range from the Picos and are home to a wild Celtic pony breed called the Asturcon. We were hoping catch a glimpse of the elusive pony, but didn't see it. We did, however, see plenty of grazing horses and cattle. Each wears a bell around its neck. The symphony of hundreds of cowbells in the distance was very relaxing and beautiful.

The trailhead starts across the street from the Fito, a popular vista point. If the weather is clear to the coast, you'll be rewarded with beautiful views all the way to the sea.

    Awesome shore

You must tour the beautiful and rugged coast of Asturias. There are many sensational vistas and beaches and lots of hidden jewels! I'm not going to bother to offer directions because it would be pointless. With miles and miles of shoreline, Asturias has something for everyone. Just get in the car and drive. Trust me, you'll find something that suits you. Whether you prefer the secluded secret jems or sprawling sandy beaches crawling with beach bunnies, you'll find something that you like.

    Beaches & many hidden jewels

by asturnut Written Feb 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are a lot of hidden jewels and secluded unspoiled beaches all over Asturias. You'll have to find those yourself, but here are a few of suggestions for some places to visit:
Remote beaches, such the one pictured here: 'Playa Xago' require some hiking to get to, but it's well worth it. This particular beach is quite large and sandy. Asturias has a lot of hidden beaches only locals know about, so you'll just have to ask!

    Medievil Bridge

by asturnut Written Feb 25, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

At Cangas de Onis visit this very old bridge, which many people, myself included mistakenly believe to be Roman. I was recently informed that it is in fact a medievil bridge. Regardless, it's something interesting to see.

    The Asturian coast has escaped...

by DanielF Written Aug 26, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Asturian coast has escaped to overbuilding unlike the Mediterranean coast in Spain. The scenery is so beautiful here: wild beaches, high cliffs and the imcomparable framework of the high Asturian mountains.
