Spain has very little problem with violent crime relative to most other nations. But like any city of it's size Oviedo does have a small problem with muggers. Common sense will likely keep you out of any trouble in Oviedo. My only word of caution is in regard to places like parks and dimly lit streets at night. We almost got mugged one night we decided to take a shortcut through the Parque de San Francisco, which is very safe by day.
