Hotel Kaype Quintamar: Don't bother!

by w1dget

Right by the Barru bahc so has nice outlook but I wouldn't recommend it for the following reasons:1. They charged us a service chareg for one of daughters who didn'tr want to eat. She's only 4 yrs old.2. The fish was frozen and not cooked properly.3. No child's menu.4. Chips with the chicken not cooked properly.5. Red wine chilled to almost freezing temperature.

Restaurante Marisquería Pantalán: Seafood with a View

by karenincalifornia

Pantalan is located is the very charming seaside village of Lastres. We stopped here on our way to our inn in Asturias, and it was everything we were hoping to find in a seaside restaurant - delicious authentic Asturian seafood dishes, beautiful view, excellent wines. The restaurant has an outdoor deck, which is where we ate. The menus are in Spanish only, and the servers don't speak English, so you have to rely on whatever Spanish skills you have, or hope for the best. My husband had heard a lot about the hake with sidra (a traditional Asturian dish) and it was very good. My daughter ordered hake with a marinara sauce. We were expecting a tomato based Italian sauce, but hers was greenish/yellowish. But very delicious. The fried calimari was excellent, too. I had been dying to try the Cabrales bleu cheese and was very happy to see it on the menu. That's what I ordered, but for some...

Casa Conrado: Oviedo Fine Dining

by karenincalifornia

We stopped at Casa Conrado during our day trip to Oviedo. Oviedo has a number of highly recommended restaurants for fine dining and Casa Conrado was one them. It's in a great location - right in the old town center. The atmosphere is formal - the waiters wear white jackets and carry dish towels on their arms - even at lunch, so be prepared. On the other hand, we did not feel out of place with our comfortable tourist clothes (as my fashionista daughter calls them). Everyone but me thought this was one of the best meals we had in Asturias. They ordered fish, meat, and pork. I ordered the vegetarian entree. A common problem in Spain I encountered was very few restaurants really knew how to cook vegetables, particularly vegetable entrees, because Spain is not really geared toward vegetarians. At Casa Conrado, I had some mixture of a variety of veggies, which could have been good. However,...

Casa Poli: Awesome value for real Asturian food

by NanaBumpa

Casa Poli was recommended by my husband's cousin who was born and raised in Asturias. The restaurant has two floors and many, many rooms. Once you enter, you realize you are in the center of a courtyard, and there are plants and ivy growing all along the stone walls. You will hear people chattering, some children misbehaving, laughter, the bubbling sound of poured cider and the like. We waited maybe 7 minutes for a table, and meanwhile we had sidra at the bar. Most of the food on the menu were meat, although they had various tapas and raciones that included seafood, vegetables, salad and cheese. Everything we tried there was quite good, including the homemade desserts. It wasn't high cuisine, it was more like food that sticks to the ribs. The best thing about Casa Poli is the value! The prices of the dishes are very reasonable and the portions are generous. The service was impeccable and...

Pantalan: Worst Restaurant EVER

by NanaBumpa

I have to disagree with karenincalifornia. The Pantalan was the first restaurant we entered upon arriving in Asturias for our one-week vacation. Boy, did we regret it! First off, the service was terrible. We walked in at 3 o'clock and waited until 4 until we finally were seated. There were several irritated customers who had been waiting to pay their bill for at least 40 minutes. Secondly, the food was overpriced and awful. 15 euros bought us a dish of 7 clams and and another 15 euros for a clam rice dish which still had an undissolved bouillon cube in it, which I unfortunately crunched into. The stuffed onions were ok until I felt something ice cold in the center of it and realized that they had just microwaved a frozen stuffed onion. It was disgusting. I have lived in Spain for 3 years and this is the worst restuarant I've ever eaten in. And then, we were overcharged. Our final bill...

Restaurant La Cabana: Best Traditional Asturian Dishes

by karenincalifornia

Hands down, Restaurant La Cabana was our choice for the best traditional Asturian food on our trip to Asturias. It served the traditional dishes like fabada asturiana, merluza stew, suckling pig and rice pudding. The decor was so charming and authentic. We absolutely loved this restaurant and we cannot say enough good things about it. We wanted to try everything, so even though this was lunch for us, we ordered first courses, second courses and dessert. I broke ranks with my vegetarian diet and ordered the merluza stew. That's hake with clams and shrimp and the most delicious sauce. Excellent. See my Customs tips for more information on Asturian cuisine. I wish San Francisco had an Asturian restaurant. I will miss this food very much.

Hotel Posada del Valle: Fresh and organic

by karenincalifornia

If you are a guest at the Hotel Posada del Valle, you have the option of eating breakfast and dinner at the inn. The food is delicious. Nigel and Joann Burch have developed a delicious menu for both meals. The selections change every day and made from fresh locally produced organic ingredients. The dinners were so delicious and convenient, we ended up eating here 3 out of the 4 nights of our stay. Breakfast is served buffet style. Choices of food include homemade breads, Asturian honey (we took home a jar - for sale at the front desk), Asturian yogurt and granola, Asturian cheese, Iberian ham, apple juice, coffee, egg dishes, fresh fruit. Dinner is set menu with a choice of meat or vegetarian entrees. It is so rare to see a vegetarian entree in Spain - I was pleased - and the entrees were always delicious. An assortment of top quality Spanish wines are also available.

KOLDO MIRANDA: BEST RESTAURANT IN CENTRAL ASTURIAS

by yabotabo

This has to be the best restaurant in the Aviles area(possibly all Asturias). Excellent service and food. More of a dining experience than a typical eatery. Koldo(the chef)changes his menu(carta)seasonaly. EVERYTHING is good.

Sidrerias: Asturias the region of apple trees

by LanaFromRiga

Sidreria is the place where people drinking cider (la sidra). Cider is a typical drink in Asturias. It is an alcoholic drink, but not strong. The most magical moment is the way how bartender fill glass with cider. You can see it in pictures. La sidra - cider

Cider houses

by morganna

The bottle over your head, the glass almost in your knees... this is the right way to serve sidra, the typicall drink in Asturias. Could be just funny, but it has a good explanation: the long distance allows to break some little particles when they meet the glass and they give the original flavour of the cider. If you go to any "sidreria" (cider house), they serve to you the drink since as you can imagine, it is not easy... You can eat some good food there, too.
