Hire a car

by LanaFromRiga

Car gives you possibility to go places you want to go without problems and quickly. We rented car in RECORD, the main office in Gijon is in the railway station. Very nice Opel Corsa, 1.3, we went 732 km and spent 30 litrs of gasoline. Be prepared to pay a deposite money. It will be back to you after you'll return the car. The prices are very democratic - 38,34 EUR per one day.Asturias has very nice roads with very good traffic signs. Drivers are polite and unagressive.

Going to Asturias by bus

Spain has a great bus connecting system ALSA. You can go anywhere by bus. Easy to check routs and destination points and buy tickets on-line in ALSA web-page. Comfortable way how to go to Asturias and around.

Map of the RENFE Cercanias train route in Asturias

How to get to Asturias: The national airline of Spain is Iberia, but all major airlines go to Madrid and Barcelona. I have always flown to Madrid's Barajas airport, which is clean and sort of old-fashioned in a cute sort of way.The cheapest way is to fly into Madrid or Barcelona and take a train to your destination in Asturias. More expensive is flying into Madrid or Barcelona and renting a car and driving. Aside from the rental fee, the tolls along the way are horrendously expensive. I think it's something akin to two or three hundred dollars. Alternately, you can fly into Madrid or Barcelona and take a commuter flight on Aviaco to Gijon, then take the bus, train or rental car to your desination. All of Spain has excellent, safe, clean and cheap public transportation. Cheapest and best (most scenic as well) is the train. The best way to get around Asturias are the trains: Asturias has...

There are direct flights to...

by DanielF

There are direct flights to Asturias airport from Madrid, Barcelona, London or Paris. You can also come by train from Madrid, but the bus is better and links the region with many more cities. (Make sure that you get the 'supra' service). As usual, the best way to discover the region is the private car, but Asturias provides a lot of hiking opportunities in the beautiful mountains and if you are really fit, you can even cycle. For an alternative trip, you could try the 'Transcantábrico' train. It is a luxury train than drives from Santiago de Compostela to San Sebastián along the Spanish Northern coast. You can admire the wonderful scenery of the coast and the mountains in a relaxed and comfortable way and visit the most picturesque cities and towns and taste the delicious local gastronomy.
