Things to Do

Apples!

Apples!, Villaviciosa

bonio Says:  Villaviciosa is the apple capital of Spain. There is a huge sidra factory on the outskirts, unfortunately we chose to visit on a bank holiday and there were no tours, never mind we sampled several bottles in the town!

Town hall and park

Town hall and park, Villaviciosa

bonio Says:  Impressive building the town hall with a pleasant park just behind. The tourist office is in the park, free maps for all, and take a look at the peacocks there too.

Old town

Old town, Villaviciosa

bonio Says:  Narrow streets, some enticing shops and bars, the old town is good to walk around. We had fun even though it was raining, took shelter in several bars!

El Congreso: El Congreso

El Congreso: El Congreso, Villaviciosa

bonio Says:  Good hostal overlooking the park. Very friendly and fun as no English spoken when we arrived and my Spanish is very poor, we got by drawing pictures! Comfortable rooms for €40 a night with a warm croissant and coffee in the morning - excellent. Also the bar downstairs sells...

Restaurants

Casa Marcelo: Casa Marcelo

Casa Marcelo: Casa Marcelo, Villaviciosa

bonio Says:  A wet lunchtime in Villaviciosa and hungry, fabada was advertised and as this was our last day in Asturias and I was determined to try this stew of pork, sausage, black pudding and beans - here was my chance. Washed down by 2 bottles of sidra we had a good lunch, fabada very...

Transportation

Bus

Bus, Villaviciosa

bonio Says:  We arrived from Ribadesella and moved on to Gijon on the Alsa bus service. Regular service and easy to understand timetables. Buy a ticket in the office or from the driver.

Local Customs

Sidra

Sidra, Villaviciosa

bonio Says:  Or cider to Englishspeakers, the local tipple is excellent. Pouring it into the glass is a skilled job, didn't dare to try myself. There are many siderias around town, all we visited were very friendly and some tasty snacks too.

Just a one night visit to this pleasant small town just inland from the coast. Asturias apple capital we were told, and sidra is very popular here, maybe we had a couple too many, it tastes very good!...
