Privilege (Club), Ibiza
The largest club in the world! This fact alone should tell you a lot about it. It is dedicated to partying even boasting a swimming pool! So large that even the bathrooms have resident DJs! There are three main rooms all playing different types of music so you're bound to find something you like.
Manumission on Monday nights is probably the most anticipated event every week. The club goes all out in generating another world with its decorations and entertainment. Though it's expensive, it will be worth it to at least go once in order to understand all the hype.

Privilege is one of the most famous clubs in Ibiza. It is known for being the biggest club in the world, with room for 7000-8000 guests! it is situated in San Rafel which is between Ibiza town and San Antonio in practically in the middle of nowhere!! Somehow thousands of clubbers find there way to the large club in the desert. Privilege was known for the outrageous party Manumission, but after an unagreement they split and moved the party over to Amnesia. In 2008 the two big parties were Tiesto (on mondays) and a concept I don't remember on fridays. Being at the biggest club in the world is exhausting! There are long lines (we arrived at 2 am) and lots of annoying, noisy people (ex. singing christmas carols at the top of their lungs right into your ear) It is so hot inside sweat is pouring down from the ceiling.. almost! My clothes were just drenched and everyone else were sweating as pigs as well. They do open the roof now and then to let in some fresh air and let out some of the hot, smelly used-up air, but it's not enough. Fortunately there are some outdoor terraces where you can escape to cool down. There are many bars spread over the place but it can be hard to reach them because of the masses of people! There are many "sections" such as a dancefloor right in front of the stage, a dancefloor behind the pool (I don't understand what the pool is for!) There are some balconies as well and a dancefloor on the second floor behind the VIP section. The sound and lightshow was quite dissappointing.. I'd expected something more from the worlds biggest club (check out Amnesia instead!) The clubbers are mostly guys, 70 % guys and 30 % girls. Because of the dark and it's size, unfortunately some guys exploits the setting to grope girls, so be aware.. The main act (DJ) usually starts playing around 3 AM - good to know!
There are supposed to be free bus shuttle from San Antonio and Ibiza town and to Privilege, but we saw none of it! There is a disco bus (regular bus but they call it disco bus that runs every half hour from the bus station in Ibiza town). It costs 2,20 and gets quite crowded, but it takes about 7-8 minutes to get to Privilege. You have to walk for about 10 minutes as well after getting of the bus.. The taxi drivers know that all of these clubbers are going home at some point and drive past Privilege to snatch up passengers. Be aware of pirate taxi drivers asking you right outside the entrance if you need taxi - I wouldn't trust them!
Dress Code: People dress up in all kinds of outfits. The most common combination for boys is sneakers, shorts and a shirt/t-shirt but I saw guys in jeans (too hot), tank tops, bare chested..
Girls usually wear short skirts/shorts and a tank top/bikini top or a short dress. Some has lots of accessories and jewelry, sunglasses, long fake eyelashes, others just come as they are! Shoes; sandals or flipflops was the most common.. -just be aware that someone will step on your toes!
Girls: I advise you on bringing a bag that has a long strap (across the body), you'll have your hands free - it's liberating!
Monday 5th September - The Enchantment of Aphrodite, The Coquette & The Shark
Manumission began life in 1994 in Manchester, England with an idea to revolutionize the club scene and within 12 weeks had been voted best club in the UK. They took their philosophy to the Ku club in Ibiza (now Privilege and officially the world's biggest club), originally just a small event in one of Ku’s bar areas, it quickly expanded to take in the entire 12,000 capacity, hanger-like space every Monday night. And now Manumission – whose name translates from the Latin as ‘freedom from slavery’ – enjoys a reputation as one of the most liberal and hedonistic events in the world - a multimedia extravaganza cross pollinating the worlds of film, theatre, performance art, and music in a night club environment.
Fischerspooner are/were residents at Manumission, Ibiza for the Summer 2005 season. The NYC based art/pop group will take the stage as part of the world famous Manumission
Fischerspooner’s own shows have been the subject of acclaim and controversy since they started performing in NYC clubs and galleries in 1999. Packed to bursting with dancers, stage effects, elaborate wardrobe changes and lip synch the shows they performed in conjunction with their debut album, ‘#1’ became legendary for their irreverent take on an ‘outsider’ pop show spectacular. For the shows in support of their new album ‘Odyssey’, Fischerspooner incorporates live music for the first time.
Privilege is a very large club. On its popular night "Manumission" the full capacity of 10,000 patrons is definately met! The club is something to see with a lot of different hidden rooms playing all tastes of music BUT when it is that packed it is almost impossible to walk around! You don't notice the stairs or steps and it is very easy to fall with all the pushing. It's not one of the clubs I always go back to but when I do go they always put on spectacular shows!
We went here as everyone had told us if you come to Ibiza make sure you come to Manumission that is held at Privilege on a Monday night.
This place is extremely expensive at around £30 just to walk throught the door and at least £5 for a bottle of water but trust me it is well worth it. I thought it might take a while to get in simply because of the sheer number of people who go here but to my surprise it was so well organized and we literally walked straight in and the doorman were not your usual suited up gorillas they were just ordinary people who were so laid back it was untrue.
Once inside your senses are bombarded from all angles from the amazing sound that arrupted from Judge Jules to the smell inside and the amazing sights of fire eaters dancers and acrobats it really is truly amazing and the Manumission management who really did a good job organizing it all - Top stuff and well recommended.
Dress Code: Almost anything!!
Privilege is in the Guiness Book of World Records as the world's largest club. And, it definitely looks it. The place is massive!! It holds up to 30,000 party-goers! Thats a small city of heathens!!! I was glad to be one of those on the best night of the club, Manumission Mondays. Manumission is a interactive show that that is melded with the nights music. Acrobats, certain live "acts", trapese artists, singing, etc. Its really a crazy thing to witness, but so much fun. Smokin Jo was the resident Dj for the night I was there, but Sonique stopped by to offers her talents on the decks for about an hour. Me an Omer partied until our legs hurt, and then we went some more. When else am I going to be young AND on Ibiza again???
Dress Code: Holy cow. You can wear WHATEVER you feel like. Or, you can wear absolutely nothing. I saw both.
We were in Ibiza for the opening party at Amnesia and Privilege. Privilege is the biggest club in the world and it stands up to that fact, it was huge!!!
We stayed out of the main room (which seemed to be full of more younger, North American tourists), and we partied in the tropical second room which was more ambient, groovin house and full of the European crowd.
They even brought out a sax player which was a nice touch to the morning tunes.
Dress Code: No dress code. Anything goes in Ibiza!
The most famous club on the island. Some of the biggest parties are held here with up to 8000 people. Monday night is the biggest party with 'Manumission'. A big show is put on with acrobats and trapeze artists performing above your heads, the famous 'sex show' no longer takes place, but you will probably see some very unusual sights. Entrance and drinks are very expensive, entrance can be $60, and drinks about $15, have a few before you go.
Dress Code: Smart to outrageous
My friend Dave looking out the window from Privilege, cannot believe its morning and we're still partying!
I wasn't used to being able to see outside while in a club.
