Arriving in Ibiza by boat, the first thing I noticed was the castle above the town. It seems every Mediterranean port has a castle. Below the castle here are the residences and, of course, the bars which make this place famous. And all around the island are pristine beaches. Whether you are here for nightlife or relaxation, you will find something to do.
The nearer to the city walls, the narrower and more tortuous the streets become. The area literally buzzes with life during the summer as the busiest bars, restaurants and shops all seem to be in this pretty and accessible area, but come on foot.
The main town square and centre of town is the nearby Paseo de Vara de Rey.
Ibiza town is well worth a visit. If you get the chance go there during the day and again in the evening.
Buses run here from all over the Island and in the harbour are boats that will take you to and from the various resorts. Here you will also find the odd busker and quite a few living statues.
Wander down the streets from the harbour, take in a meal at one of the numerous pavement restaurants or simply find a bar, relax and people watch.
Ibiza town is very cosmopolitan. It has a vibrant atmosphere in the evenings, and more so at weekends. As well as the restaurants and bars there are beautiful clothes shops, many with unique designs, and stalls selling trinkets are everywhere.
While you are there you must see D’Alt Villa also known as the old town. This is a fortress perched above the main town. If you’re not into monuments, don’t discard going there. There is much more to see there than old ruins.
All the old city of Eivissa is charming, but the hill inwalls adds a little more beauty with its ramps and stacked houses on the uneven terrain, letting air and light to reach every corner of every winding street, making every room a good place for sightseing and relaxing...
Having a walk by the city is always a pleasure, specially at the old part, both up the hill (inwalls) and at the port side. Beautiful tradicional buildings, sights, and ambience (by day and by night :-) The walls may seem too new, as they've been worked a lot recently, but most of the rock-bricks are original... not a problem, they will stand for a long time, yet!
Just try not to bring all your money/credit card with you in one day: you will end up with your wallet empty, and a lot of bags hanging down on your hands, packed with beautiful clothes, shoes... hmmm...
Each beginning of may there is the mediaval market in the D'alt vila and Eivissa town. Its a unique spectacle, due to the setting - not to be missed!
