    Pearl Factory

by solopes Updated Dec 15, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Knowing the strong advertising of Mallorca pearls, from Manacor, I was very curious about the technology of pearl making.

What a disappointment! A line of women painting small plastic balls, drying them, slipping them in a string... and... head to the shop. The big, big, shop!

    Palma's Square - Statues & Performers

by henrymyles Written Oct 30, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The problem is within this beautiful square is that some of the performers - most are dressed up in costumes will hassle you for your change until you give them some - recently my brother was kicked in the shin by the one in a baby costume because he wouldn't give any money.

Unique Suggestions: Palma is a beautiful city so do go and see the performers but limit your change to the really good ones - they can be found everywhere from the Cathedral to the Moorish spas and can range from having awful costumes with surly attitudes to having beautiful outfits as well as being friendly.

Fun Alternatives: If you really cannot stand these performers asking you for money then take a stroll down the sea front (performers are mainly in city centre) where you can while the day away at a cafe in the sun watching the huge boats

OVERATED! To me it was like a dump! Not the real Mallorca! I've heard really bad reviews about the Alcudia Pins Hotel as salmonella!!!! eerrgghh!!! Go further West to discover Port de Pollenca, its worth it!!!

Unique Suggestions: Be prepared! No before you go! Hire a car and get out of there!

Fun Alternatives: Cala D'Or! Families and fun in the sun!

Deià is a village on a hill. It looks beautiful from a distance, but it is an ordinary village.

In this picture you see the most beautiful house I saw in that village.

Unique Suggestions: In Deià you can do some shopping; have a meal, or go to Cala Deià; a beautiful beach.

    Time share

    by nigelw6443 Written Aug 30, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a problem that has been going on for years! I arrived in Palma and more or less as soon as I was leaving the Cathedral I was approached. Being the friendly sort I spoke with the girl with extremely short skirt and rubbed off the card to be told I was a winner. Her super came over and it was discussed that I had won a Plasma TV which should I go to the presentation I would also get 2 bottles of Cava and as a smoker 400 cigs. All I had to do was drive to Santa Ponsa and spend an hour listening to the presentation. Well, I should never had stopped to listen because I never bothered going and basically I wasted an hour!

Fun Alternatives: Tell them politely that you are busy!

in front of the Cathedral la Seu

by barbskie Updated Jul 11, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Well, it wasn't that bad but it was very unpolite of that man , whatever..... to have my 2 Euro instead of 1 Euro i had in my hand! He never did anything except blocking our way.... just a gag though. He was just lucky enough he looks like Charlie Chaplain...and we love the real one. Somewhat a funny trap!

Unique Suggestions: We always appreciated those street artists doing their shows and never regret giving a little for their works. Just watch out to those dressed like clowns or in anyhow who directly make gags with you..........or better keep some coins in your pocket rather than grabbing your wallet like me. It was my first experience ever!

    Riu Palace

This is probably the worst nightclub i've been in. Horrible music (at least for me), too young people - 13, 14 years old. You see entire families in there. You pay the entrance and then it's open bar all night, but the drinks are so lousy!! Forget it.

Unique Suggestions: At least leave the main room and go to a tiny danefloor on the other room - R&B/Soul/Hip Hop tipe of music, the music is better and so are the people. Concerning the drinks, just drink before you go, because drinking a vodka lemon for exemple, is the same as drinking a glass of lemon juice.

Fun Alternatives: Tito's in Paseo Maritimo de palma is a good choice. Everything is much much better, you must visit Tito's!

This village seemed to me like a ghost place.

There you find a church, two bars and I suppose some shops.

Unique Suggestions: Don't go there. Visit Palma instead.

    I didn't like this village.

In this pic you see the only nice spot I found in Alcudia.

Unique Suggestions: If you have to go to Alcudia you can do some shopping. There are lots of shops there.
