  • La Salamander: Stay away from this restaurant.

    by 01mogwai Written Aug 12, 2012

Went there on a balmy Monday evening expecting big things. What a huge disappointment. We waited about 40 minutes before we even got a drinks order taking. The waiter was very rude and very much looked like a man that hated his job,we eventually received our food after about 2 hours and to be very honest it was disgusting,a blob of semi cold lasagne(no garnish/veg ect). The steak ordered was nice but not worth a 2 hour wait.Whilst we where waiting 6 people even though they had ordered food had got up and walked out of the restaurant much to the owners rage,i would have done the same if i had of known what we where about to be served. My advice would be to give this restaurant a wide birth. You have been warned.

el Pato: Good Food & Service

    by kevin36 Updated Aug 3, 2008

    Sebastian (el Pato)
    4 more images

There are so many restaurants in Calan'nBosc, this one was my favorite.
The surroundings are Comfortable, but what makes this so special is the service and the good selection of food available.
The staff here are always polite and only to pleased to talk to you, and give advice on the meals and the Island.
But the overall selection of food is very good and they cater for the children very well.
You might find this a bit a of a cheek but we got to know the staff fairly well and I asked one of the staff which was a good restaurant to get a really good paella!,thinking he would say "why here of course" (they do make good paellas by the way but we wanted a special one), he directed me to another Restaurant explaining it would be more expensive, but was worth a try also to let him know for future reference. Now that to me is being honest and looking after their customers as result we went back on regular basis to El Pato.
Most of the Restaurants are very good, but my opinion, this one stood out and was always busy.
The service is excellent they make sure you are comfortable and nothing seems to much trouble.
The children have their own menu from which they can choose to have it in a car, boat or plane (cardboard cut outs)and was also something they enjoyed taking home with them.
If i was to mark it out of 10! it would get 10. "Thank you to you all at El pato".

Favorite Dish: Its very difficult to pick out One Favorite here as there are a few :
The Mixed Meat Tray, shared between two people ,The Picture speaks for itself.(Delicious)
Kebabs : Again The Picture speaks for itself.
The Mixed paella very good overall, but not the best! see the next restaurant Tip.
The leg of lamb : If you are very hungry ,this is the one for you 1KG leg of lamb with chips, people look with disbelief when it arrives at your table (no picture).

    Restaurant Cafe Balear: Seafood!

    Seafood Paella
    2 more images

Restaurant Cafe Balear, This was the Place were recommended for Paella or Seafood, its very plush and the service is good,However it was missing that personal service that we found at El Pato, but don't be put off it was very good.
"The Paella" was excellent and with out doubt the best Paella we had had in our two week stay,
cooked to perfection, although more expensive than some other places we saw for Paella, it was worth it and I think good value.
Looking at some of the other meals people were having ,this would appear to be the place for sea food and I believe they catch their own.

Favorite Dish: "Paella" Cooked to perfection it is bought out to you then served from a special tray which is kept covered while you eat ,and they will keep serving it to you til its gone.(I couldn't eat all mine).

Maxi's: A hint of traditional Spanish

by chazgilbert Written Aug 20, 2007

    World Cup time
    3 more images

Maxi's is tucked away from the loop road at the western edge of Cala en Forcat, and is therefore a lot quieter than the restaurants on the busy main street.

This is about as close as it gets to traditional Spanish in one of Menorca's most intensively developed resorts. The food is cheap and simple, but pretty damn tasty.

Maxi's is set upon a gently sloping cliff, with excellent views across the sea towards Majorca. Because it looks west, you can guarantee some fantastic sunsets.

Favorite Dish: A cheese and salad sandwich - nice and simple.

    Pasarela: Great Tapas

by steventilly Updated Sep 21, 2006

    Tapas at Pasarela
    1 more image

A nice place on the harbourside at Mahon, on the way along to the gin distillery. Lots of outside tables and the usual un-rushed (i.e. slow, but fine if you're in no hurry) service. A bonus for wife was the gang of port police who came here for their lunches, all tans and designer shades.

Favorite Dish: All in all we found Menorca to be a difficult place for vegetarians. To be fair, we'd already read about that and were expecting it, it's just that really we were hoping the warnings were exaggerated. They weren’t. In most places there were only one or maybe two tapas dishes we could have (the ubiquitous "Russian salad") and no main courses. That's not really enough for a meal.
Pasarela was the only place we found that had more than 4 dishes (exluding russian salad) that we could have, even if two of them were cheese and three of them potatoes.
We had Papas Bravas (superb, really delicious sauce with whole hunks of chilli in); Queso de Mahon; Camanbert and Tortilla Espanol. We could have had Russian salad, papas fritas and papas err "in garlic" (I forget the Spanish for that)l too.
It was lovely, as was the atmosphere and as one of our last meals on the island it rounded off a perfect holiday.

Mirador, Cala Santa Galdana: A Meal With A View

    Mirador Restaurant, Cala Santa Galdana
    2 more images

There can hardly be a restaurant on Menorca with a better view than this one, perched on a rocky headland jutting out into the bay at Cala Galdana. It's open for drinks, snacks and light meals during the day and full dinner in the evening. We were there during the day, so we didn't sample its menu, though there were some veggie options that appealed to us.

    Casino: Excellent food, Excellent jazz!

by danilou Written Jul 19, 2006

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This resturant is so good you will find yourself eating there every night! The food is very reasonable 15-20 euros for a 3 course meal or if you eat there during the day they have a 'menu del dia' which is 3 courses, bread and coffee. By law in Spain resturants have to have a 'menu del dia' with a set price. If you go to casino, get there early (7-7.30 ish) as it gets so packed!
On tuesday nights they have a jazz club where musicans from all over the world come to play there, and anyone who can play an instrument can join in.

Favorite Dish: Gambas a la planca
    Prawn cocktail- its huge!
Pudin de abuela -Grandma's pudding (the BEST bread pudding I have ever tasted!)

Casa Andres: Chateaubriand and so much more

    by Trapper2 Written Jun 23, 2006

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    DO NOT MISS THIS!
The food is what brings people to Casa Andres, but everything else is here too, the service is perfect, and unobtrusive. The advert in the local information, certainly would not draw you there, but it is weel worth finding. This little gem is probably the only restaurant not on a road in Son Bou, and also the only one booking is required for. If you want to visit, be early, as after around 7pm you won't get in...
The menu is fantastic, and there really is something for everyone, from local Menorcan dishes, to international favourites. A meal here cost us from 88 to 106 Euros for 4, which is very reasonable for what you get...
The night we had Chateaubriand, it was presented when cooked, carved next to our table, and served Flambé. The show was almost worth the asking price!

Favorite Dish: Fave was definatley the Chateaubriand, buit then there was the fillet, and the Paella...

Sa Llagosta but there are several good ones: Fornells

by stevieUK Updated Dec 19, 2004
    Restaurant on Fornells Harbour

Fornells is a great place to wander around in the early evening, have a few drinks by the harbour and then take a meal in one of the great restaurants along there.
Seafood is the speciality of course but other dishes were equally enjoyable.
You pay a little more than elsewhere but worth splashing out for and still not excessive.

Favorite Dish: Seafood dishes are the speciality (lobster is what the King of Spain comes here for apparently but you pay through the nose for this).

  • La Salamader - Cala n porter: Worth the Drive

by biggsy Written Jun 9, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Worth driving from the other side of the island to visit this very popular restaraunt.
Sometimes in summer you may have to queue outside for quite a while but it's well worth it.
Prices fantastic despite the euro and definatley value for money. It caters for allsorts of food. This restaraunt is popular with locals and tourists, and with a bar next door it is somewhere to chill out afterwards.

    Favorite Dish: Starter: Cheese Omlette
    Main Course: Steak (Big)
    Desert: Chocolate Mousse.

Certain deals are accompanied with a free bottle of wine.

El Bribon: Seafood restaurant in Ciutadella

by maritagnes Updated Jun 1, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Strolling along the harbour of Ciutadella is a pleasant experience. There is a selection of restaurants to choose between as you walk by, we chose El Bribon this time.
After having lots of fish during our stay, we settled for a pizza this time. The restaurant offered the menu of the day, which looked excellent, a varied a la carte meny, and also a special pizza and pasta menu.
We got an enormous pizza each, the bottom was crisp and airy, like we prefer it.

    Es Moix: Catalonian 'haute cuisine'

by AndreSTGT Updated Apr 28, 2004

    Cala Macarella

In a location where one does not expect to find such an exquisite restaurant, Es Moix serves probably the most creative food on the island.
'A la carte' prices are quite high, but the 'Menu del d?a' is excellent value at 11,40€.

Favorite Dish: My favorites were the delicious tuna cake and the veal carpaccio with foie gras. Their dessert cakes were to die for!

I felt the need to try something local, search the varied menu and found Menorcan Lamb Chops,so I thought I'd give them a whirl. They arrived after about 10 minutes and were well worth the wait,There were 4 on the plate covered in a rich sauce,we were overlooking a bay in Fornells,a wonderful setting,a truly memorable day, finished with a stroll arong the harbour in Fornells itself, through the many palm trees that line the pavements providing both colour and shade,Billy,my 9 year old enjoyed running inbetween the trees,as all kids do

    Favorite Dish: Menorcan Lamb Chops.
The words ''Bloody Gorgeous''spring to mind when I think of that meal.Peace and tranquility and a full belly.....Great.

    Taj: Authentic Indian food

by AndreSTGT Updated Jul 9, 2003

    Taj Restaurant, Ma

It is not easy to find really good and authentic Indian food in Europe and Menorca is probably the last place where i expected it.
But the Taj in Maó was a very pleasant surprise. Perfect Samosas and Pakoras, tasty Biryani, and Tandoori dishes.
Prices are very reasonable with mains between 7-13 €.

This beautiful little café on Maó's harbour promenade is my personal favorite.
It is the perfect place to drink a 'cortado' and eat a 'bocadillo' in a nice atmosphere.
