While trying to hide from the sun and heat, we came upon the "Almoina", a little cafe with bar next to Le Seu Cathedral. It was a charming little place with tables on the sidewalk as well as within the cafe itself. We chose to sit inside, not because it is slightly less expensive to be served inside, but because we didn't want to be in the sun and ceiling fans inside were a plus. I am glad we chose to sit inside because it was rather interesting and it gave us a chance to look around a bit, people watch and use the restrooms. Our order consisted only of bottled water, a beer, and a couple of fruit drinks because, frankly we were quite overheated already. The waiter was civil, if not welcoming as I recall. He probably would have been happier if we had ordered food too!! But hey, would a smile have killed him!?!?? After all, the only customers he had that day were obviously tourists! The interior had a cozy, European but Moorish influence, with a lovely tile mural on the wall, a dark wooden-beamed ceiling, arches, and many Byzantine lamps of different shades of glass hanging from the ceiling. The large wooden bar was surrounded with shelves holding colorful bottles of sodas, beers, wines and liqueurs which made for a real focal point in the room. Seeming oddly out of place was a suit of armor on one side of the room near a little elevated area holding more tables and chairs for diners who probably arrive later in the evening. On the walls and above the arched entryways were decorative plates, paintings, copper pieces and wall sconces. The interior was so interesting that I walked around just to snap some photos!
This cafe was certainly lovely in the daytime and I can picture it being very atmospheric when the sun is setting. We did not sample the food here, and the service could have been more friendly, but without a doubt I enjoyed our little respite here and would return. I never discovered where the steps next to the cafe led nor did I learn what "Antigvedades Linares" meant. Anyone with a clue, please let me know!! When my husband and son felt they had had enough sightseeing for one day, they somehow found this genuine Irish pub MacGowan's on a little side street not far from Almudaina Palace and Le Seu Cathedra. The cozy, dark interior held only a few tables and an L-shaped bar. A soccer game was on the TV behind the bar, and there were newspapers spread about the place. It obviously was a locals' (and perhaps ex-patriates) bar and some customer voices definitely carried an Irish brogue. MacGowan's had its own aroma of beer and cigarette smoke. On this lazy Sunday afternoon, my husband and son were very obviously the only tourists at the bar. The US ship and squadron insignia stickers dotting the area behind the bar were somehow reassuring. It reminded my husband of flying into Palma many years ago. We didn't find the customers or the bar attendant extremely talkative (this really is a neighborhood bar), and since soccer is not my husband's sport of choice, our stay at MacGowan's was briefer than it could have been. Open: 9:00 am til late!! "Food served all day 365 days a year."
Rather than order a Guinness, my husband tried a Stella Artois, the pale Belgian lager which he seems to like more than the heavy red lagers. Prices ran from about 2,5 to 3,5 Euros for a half to a full pint. I'm sure bar snacks were available, but on this hot & humid day, the ice cold beer was a treat in itself. A family run institution which has two big, buzzing restaurants in the small town of Genova, a short taxi ride from the centre of Palma. This is a must visit restaurant. Rustic ambience where you can enjoy well-cooked local dishes. Renowned for their 'Pa amb oli', (toasted bread which you rub with cloves of garlic and small, viine tomatoes and sprinkle with salt) and their huge bowls of snails in a peppery 'broth'. This is mainly a grilled meat restaurant although their are a few fish choices available too.

La Tsocana restorant by russian_yaz Nice good looking bar. Specialized on basque food, tytpical region in Spain. U can taste various wines also. The owner is great, good service and person oriented. For 20 euros U'll have a good dinner, with various dishes including things like overflowed shrimps, octopus and other delicatessen. The place is quiet and near Plaza Espanya so U'll not miss it. It has nearby other good places where to eat, drink and take a rest while looking the locals. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: st. Inside by russian_yaz A great place to enjoy a good local food. The place is an ancient place where to make wine, "celler" in spanish. Very high roof allow to have walls full with decoration remembering the "toreros" and other spanish traditions.
The "trampo", a local salad made of tomatoes, peppers, onions and tuna. Very tasty...hmmmm... Hotel Samos by ncfg At the Hotel Samos, every day the dishes were great. Typical dishes like the famous "paella" are don?t miss food .... and don't forget the ?Ensaimada? for desert. A fantastic thing in this hotel was the picnics. When you don?t eat in the hotel, you say to them in the previous day and they will prepare your meal to take on a picnic. I think it is a great idea because if you want to explore the island and not be worried about your meal you bring it with you. I did it sometimes.
Paella was my favorite dish. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalAddress: Magalluf

A small friendly pizzeria with high bar tables or standard tables out the back. The unique quality here is the concept of choosing a combination of different pizza slices with your favourite toppings... so, instead of one pizza with the same toppings you can choose eight different slices each with their own separate toppings to make up a whole pizza!! Of course you can also choose more, or less... depending on your hunger and how many of you are there to share :)
Either Datiles Con Bacon (Dates with Bacon) or Brocoli Al Pesto (Brocolli with Pesto) are my favourites so far... unusual pizza toppings, and very very yummy indeed!! In the center of Palma about a 15 minute walk from the cathedral is (or used to be) a wonderful local restaurant that had as many - maybe more - locals than tourists. Cellar has a Bodega theme with huge dark wood sherry or wine aging casks embedded in the walls. Tables are basic bench type with typical chequered table cloths. Tapas, other appetizers, and entrees were all reasonably priced and wonderful each time I visited and ate there. Do not, do not, miss the gazpacho - best I've ever had, bar none; and, believe me I've looked, tasted and compared elsewhere. I made it a don't miss stop during the several visits I made to Palma over a 27 year US Navy career with numerous ship visits to this wonderful island. Something for everyone from young teenagers to seniors who remain young at heart. Hope that restaurant is still there - it is a do not miss type. A safety tip as well - Sadly, last two visits were marred by a purse snatcher-thief in restaurant-bars visited at night. Ladies need to keep thier handbags close by and attached to their persons. Modus Operandi was to take advantage of a distraction - loud band, celebration, etc. and next thing you knew, the purse had gone missing. Local authorities were sympathetic, but could not offer much. Simply a matter of maintaining situational awareness and being careful in a strange - even if wonderful - place. Palma was and will always remain one of my favorite places to visit, relax and enjoy the slower pace of Mediterannean life and culture. All the best for adventure, new places and experiences. Thanks for a sounding board and hope someone finds this restaurant still open - believe me, you won't be disappointed. I've been going to this restaurant for the last 16years and its service standards and quality of food have yet to disappoint. Although a sizeable restaurant, they manage to maintain an intimate feel even when busy. The menu is varied, meals are beautifully presented and you really should try their 'apple tart' that is more like a very thin apple pizza - delicious! Out of season, there is a scaled down version of the menu (in portion size too) for around 23 euros for 3 courses.
