The brightly painted and decorated double-decker buses seen in the accompanying picture caught my eye here in Palma just near the Almudaina Palace and Le Seu Cathedral. I saw their counterparts in Barcelona too and I just really liked them. These eye-catching buses known here as the "Palma Citysightseeing" tour buses travel around the city stopping at about 15 of the most popular sights in the city of Palma such as La Rambla, Bellver Castle, Placa de Espanya, etc., and each stop corresponds with a regular bus stop so there is a little walking involved probably.
The entire route takes about 80 minutes, but as the services runs roughly 12 hrs. a day beginning at 9:30 am during the summer months, you will have time to stop at each & every place you wish to explore, getting on and off as many times as you wish.
If we had arrived knowing more of what there was to see in Palma, the sightseeing bus would have been the most practical way to see most of it and save a lot of wear and tear on the feet. I like the feature of the second "deck" of the bus being open (at least for good weather) because of the unobstructed views.
The Palma Citysightseeing bus begins its route at the Antonio Maura-Plaza Reina where a bus arrives about every 20-25 minutes. I believe it is possible, however, to get on at any of the marked stops and pay for tickets. Tickets may also be purchased online in advance and are good for up to 3 months. Once the ticket has been used, it is good Commentary about sights is pre-recorded in Spanish, Catalan, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Swedish.
These sightseeing tour buses run year round. The last departure is 8:00pm during the Summer. October through April hours are 9:30am to the last departure at 7:00pm.
2007 prices: 15 Euros for adults; 7.5 Euros for children 5-15 yrs.
UPDATE: 2011 - Prices remain the same virtually: 15 Euros adults; 7,5 Euros for children 8-16 This is better!! 7,5 Euros for adults 65 & over. Buses are wheelchair accessible!

Lot to choose from and sorry but I could say that Pollensa will not be my first choice. Pollensa is ok but places like Valldemosa (10min on car from Palma), Deia (20min in car from palma), Soller and its port (30min in car from palma throught the tunnel) will be my first choice before Pollensa. In Pollensa visit must visit 2 places, the Calvary on the center of the town, nice views from there. And the Puig de Na Maria right on the exit of the town, is a half hour walk up to an old sanctuary with an espectacular view of Pollensa, its bay, the nearby mountains and Formentor peninsula as well as Alcudia and Atalaya de Alcudia.

A visit to Valdemossa is quite worth it. The town is small and nice. The place is famous for two things: George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent a winter of 1838-1839 here, and Santa Catalina Tomas was born and lived here in the 16th century.
Visit the rooms of the monastery, where Sand and Chopin lived. You'll see Chopin's piano, and other things to remind of that winter. You can buy Sand's book about this winter too.
Great views open from the monastery, so you can take some nice pictures.
The tour includes a 15-minute "concert" - a guy will play the piano - Chopin's works.
You can buy the tour from any agency, the price is about 25-30 euros.

This tour includes traveling by bus, boat and train and takes the whole day. This is a good chance to get the general impression of the island in general, not only the beach part of it. You will go by bus to a monastery (a new-built one) in the mountains, then go down to the sea by bus, where you will have a chance to have lunch and to have some rest at the sea - you can choose the beach at the small port or walk through a tunnel to another beach. After that you will take a boat to another port and take a tiny train from there. The train goes through chilly tunnels and over beautiful valleys. Actually, I liked the train part most!
If you go to this tour, don't forget a swimming suit.
The price was 60 euro (50% for kids).

It is essential while in Mallorca to drive around the beautiful coast line. Although it was a precarious drive as the road is somewhat narrow the ocean is beautiful and there are several towers to stop at and see a view of the sky and water.

Some years ago on another trip, I took a rather terrifying, but most rewarding, bus journey back from Soller via Deia and Valdemossa to Palma.
I have to confess, I sat on the side of the bus that was nearer to the mountain rather than the big drop he he and was a little nervous, but the views were worth it.
The bohemian town of Deia is stunning - and has always attracted a large number of artists, writers and musicians over the years. English poet Robert Graves died here in 1985 and is buried in the hillside cemetery.
The main street is lined with artists workshops and there are plenty of relaxed bars & cafes from which to just sit and sketch or do nothing in particular.
The Cove of Deia-- situated down a dusty track, between the capes of Deia & Son Beltran is the most perfect place to take a dip in the sea, where you can also have a delicious meal in the one restaurant by the water. Tales of infamous beach parties are in abundance here!
This place is one of Mallorca's treasured places & I would love to to go back and spend more time there.
The monestary at Valdemossa sits high above the sea level, with amazing views. The origins of Valldemossa are said to be from prehistoric times and Valldemosa has always been a famous and favourite spot in Mallorca - Frederic Chopin and George Sand came to live in the town, their visit apparently lasting only 98 days.
There is much to see including museums, churches, plenty of places to have a cool drink or eat a meal or you can just amble around looking at the wonderful views.
I particularly enjoyed a walk through the Monastery Gardens before heading back to the bus stop for the rather less scarey ride back to Palma.
La residencia Hotel is where I am saving to go for my next visit!

it's extremly advisable to rent a good car and travell to the beaches through the island's old style villages.
you'll pass by cliffs ,churches and some great wide mansions.a reall spanish atmosphere.
there's a lot of tracks to drive through long and almost empty roads.
we travelled from palma city to the Drach caves through many towns and villages, had water stop from time to time and moved on,it was a great ride .
one of the amazing places you MUST visit while travelling is the 'Cura'.it is a mountain near the center of the island (actually Cura is the name of the monastery on the mountain). It has a magnificent view: on a clear day you can see the whole island. Its height is around 550 m.
driving there might be a little dangerous so do it carefuly and in the day time .
in the picture my girlfriend with the view from the cura behind her.
