    Inca Market

by sunchasers Written Aug 25, 2007

The Inca Market is something the tourist board advertizes as something to see. We went. It was nothing more than a large flea market at best. Nothing of real interest was sold here - leather purses, kitchenware, t-shirts, underwear, plants, etc. Also, the prices aren't really all that great.

Fun Alternatives: The shopping along the strip in Alcudia is actually better in terms of price, quality and variety.

When you visit the Cathedral in Palma, please be careful with local women presenting flowers.
DONT'T ACCEPT THE FLOWERS! If you accept them they want money from you and if you take your purse out, they will try to steal your money from you as they did with me!!!

We stayed at a very cheap hotel in San Agustin (just outside downtown Palma)
For the price we payed, it was actually very good, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are really looking for a cheap deal.
The food was very bad, the water in the pool was kinda dirty and apparently not treated/cleaned daily, the bed sheets were not switched 1 single time during 1 week...
It's a shame actually, because the hotel has a fantastic priviliged view over Palma bay...
If these are minor issues for you and if you're looking for a cheap deal, then this may be the place for you, but I see it more as a tourist trap.

Las Cuevas del Drac (the Drac cave). It's a beautiful cave but, unfortunately, visitors are herded in four times a day in groups of about 300. You can't take your time to see anything but are taken to be seated next to an underground lake. You are then submitted to 15 minutes of classical music played by a quartet in a boat. Then straight out and over 1000 pesetas poorer.

(BTW, you're not allowed to take pictures or video. You're supposed to buy theirs at a stand near the exit of the cave. Yeah, right.)

If you go on a package holiday e.g. 18-30 don't be taken in by their marketing garb. You can pay extra and attend activities. These are OK but not really worht the money and we missed most of them due to alcoholic disorientation, so it worked out very expensive. We (16 year old lads) got collared by some female reps. (you know the sort - dirty Liverpudlian slappers!) who 'persuded' us to part with our cash. They get a cut of your wedge so don't get sucked in by them!!
