Mundaka has some of the best waves in the world, and not many will argue about this. The lefthander at the mouth of Ria de Mundaka is worldclass, with since a few years is the host of the Billabongpro, an ASP WCT event.
And even if the waves are a bit smaller, you can always go to Bakio where the waves are twice the size of Mundaka (but just remember, they won't hold the size Mundaka does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Equipment: Just your normal quiver, just make sure you have a fast down the line board when Mundaka throws it's juice at you.
