If you are attending a football match at the nearby San Mames Stadium then this is an ideal spot for a pre or post match drink. The bar is usually full of friendly Athletic Club supporters.

We were doing a bit of a post match bar crawl, and this was our second stop of the evening. A very decent bar with friendly natives.

The walls of the bar are covered with Athletic team shirts.

When I visited the bar, they couldn’t have been friendlier, although they had just won, so maybe the atmosphere is a little bit different if Athletic lose.

The walls of the bar are covered with old photos of Athletic Club matches and teams of the past.

SOMERA STREET: How the basques go on party.

by RudoElCojonudo Updated Oct 14, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you are looking for the basque nightlife, if you are looking for the basque culture, if you wanna know how the basque youth enjoy themselves and get party just go to Somera street a friday or saturday night from 21:00p.m to 2:00am.
This street in the old town of Bilbao is probably the place where most people between 20 and 35 meet to drink something and have some 'pintxos' for dinner on weekends.
Most of the bars close at 2:00 or 3:00am, but don´t worry, it´s just the start point, there a plenty of places in Bilbao where you can go on party until morning.

HOW DOES IT WORK (If you don´t wan't to be easylly identified as a tourist):

1-. First of all, THE MONEY. A person has to be asigned as the responsable of the money. He has to collect the same quantity of money from each person of the group, 10 euros could be a good quantity to start. The total amount of money is called BOTE. The operation could be repited when the bote is finished of course!!
2-. WHAT TO DRINK: Never, neeeever ask something bigger than a CAÑA (half pint). If you are thinking about asking pints and stay hours and hours in the same bar you are in the wrong place my friend. You have to ask for ZURITOS (quarter pint. does it exist in england?? ), TXIKITOS (half cup of wine) or KALITXIKIS (half cup of wine mixed with coke.).
3-. WHAT TO EAT: There are many pintxos/tapas on the bars. You don´t have to ask for them, just take them from the counter and pay all of them before leaving the bar.The waiters will trust on you, but don´t forget to pay for everything you eat, they are real profesionals and they pay more attention than it seems. If you don´t pay you could be on trouble, belive me, I also worked as a waiter!! ;-P
4-. WHERE TO DRINK: There is no problem if you drink inside the bar, but as soom as you arrive to Somera you´ll see that the people drinks in the street. It´s much better to relation with the locals and know people. Don´t forget to return the glasses to the bar, please!! The glass is not included in the price of the drink.
5-. HOW TO DRINK: It has to be fast, not extressing, but quite quick. That´s why the drinks we ask for are so small, because we don´t spend more that 20 minutes in the same bar. Your attitude has to be:I have to have a drink in each bar in Somera street. ;-P

Different ways to have a good time

by ionena Written Mar 10, 2006

In Bilbao there are lots of different areas where you can enjoy yourself by doing different things while you are having a good time with your friends. It is true that there are so many places that it is difficult not to like any of them.
The old area of the city continues being the traditional place of Bilbao. It is formed by little quaint bars where you can see lots of people going from one bar to another having different types of snacks called "pintxos"
At nights it turns into a different side for young people. There is a good atmosphere there.
Besides, there are some streets and roads that are always clogged with people like the street called Licenciado Poza. This area isalways crowded when the Athletic plays in San Mames.

Caos et al.: The Music Route

by timtregenza Updated Oct 27, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Calle Simon Bolivar provides a selection of bars playing a range of music in a short space (about 100 metres between the all).

This street runs from Dr Areilza to Plaza Indautxu (Metro: Indautxu). These bars only get going late (not earlier than 10 although they are open).

    Suggest the following bars:
    - Cotton Club (located on the corner with Gregoria La Revilla)
    - Caos
    - Pinkertons (on the corner with Dr Arielza)
    - Indie (on Dr Arielza opposite to Pinkertons

In these bars you will find a variety of music and decor (and some toilets with the shortest timer on the lights!). Should you want more, the are several other bars nearby, including:
    - Cab (Areilza), and
    - A bizarre Belgian bar opposite Cotton Club

Dady: Dady - Standard small bar

by timtregenza Updated Sep 23, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This small bar (that has a small range of pintxo) is furnished like a gentlemen's club, with leather and wood panelling. This gives it a pleasant atmosphere (it does not attract the young crowd).

Interestingly, all the beer is out of bottles - there is no pump, which, given the often foul taste from barrelled beer in Spain (caused I am told by lack of cleaning and maintenance of the pipework) this is no bad thing.

One of the coolest bars in Bilbao: boys, girls, drinks... Resident dj Félix
Daniel starts the party in the most popular playground. Intimate and with low
lights. For dancing and for a drink, it's ideal to have a drink while you're
dancing. No doubt, it's a place to feel like home. Drop by my house’s playground.
