This bar/cafe/restaurant is in the style of an mediaval building (rather incongruously given its location close to San Mames in a modern street).
Menus del dia are available in the week, with platos combinados available in the bar at other times.
The bar's sandwiches are very good. The owner used to have Bars Marimar I and II, and the same sandwich style has made the journey to Alquimia. We looked at the menu and the lunch was full courses, and reasonably priced and I am sure would have been a special experience, but we just had a drink in the bar area. I had a delicious glass of white wine which was better priced and better tasting than another restaurant we went to that evening!

Fish is the main ingredient in Bilbao's cuisine. And cod is the king of fishes for Bilbaínos. They have invented delitious ways to prepare it: a la Vizcaína, al Pil-pil... You shouldn't leave without trying it. But Any other fish you order will certainly be excellent. You should try also the txipirones (small squids) and the angulas (small eels), although the latter are really very expensive. And of course, a delicacy I've never found out of Spain: the Kokotxas... Don't bother to go to a restaurant eat like the basques. wander bar to bar and with every drink order a pincho (tapa). They are usually on the counter some hot some cold. Leave a Comment

Good-sized place,with plenty of tables as well as a long bar area. It seemed a very popular stop for locals as well as tourists when we were there on a Sunday afternoon.
We are often wanting to eat outside of the main hours of where we are, so finding this place in between the lunch and dinner hours was great for us and they had a lot of choices of smaller selections; such as sandwiches and pizza-types, icre creams, etc.

There are tables outside to drink some wine, but are without chairs, is only a tall table, and that let you make friends over there. Is a feeling of free do the thing you want. Theme: Other

in the old town of San Sebastian you find a lot of great restaurants..with excellent sea-food but also delicious meat, the menus are always recommendable
