If anything characterises the Basque Country, it is its excellent cuisine and the quality of its restaurants. Basque traditional cuisine, bases its success on the quality of the raw materials (fish, meat, cheeses, etc.). All these dishes are always accompanied by Rioja wine, from the region of Alava, or with cider or 'txakolí' (Basque white wine); all three wines that are typical of Euskadi.
Pintxos are real miniature culinary masterpieces. In numerous Basque towns there are certain areas with a concentration of taverns and bars which specialise in the preparation of these gastronomic jewels. Eating pintxos is usually accompanied by 'poteo' or bar hopping, which consists of drinking wine, cider or zuritos (small glasses of beer) while standing in the company of friends and moving from one establishment to the next.

'Cerveceras' (beer places), also called 'pollerias' (chicken places).
They are very cheap (1000 pesetas per person, $6) and the food is really good, believe me! (especially the chicken).
Actually, when the weather gets good around spring, most of the families and groups of friends zoom off to the nearest 'cervecera' to start the summer season with a juicy salad, a jar of fresh beer and a crusty chicken!
Already guessed what you can eat? Nice try, but you can also have 'tortilla de patatas' (Spanish omelette), 'pimientos verdes' (green peppers), 'morcilla' (delicious black pudding), 'chorizo' (can't explain this), french fries, salad, etc. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: There are quite a few in Algorta (subway stop 'Bidezabal') and Berango (subway stop 'Berango'. There is one right across the street called 'La Palmera'). Once you get there, ask anyone.

SAN SEBASTIAN: The whole town is one enormous restaurant, especially on Saturday night. You can wander from one tapas bar to another and eat what you want. Its a bit difficult to work out the pricing structure but all the food is on display and its easy to point and eat!

A smart chinese restaurant in the centre of the city.
This restaurant has a set menu (Menu del Dia) at lunchtime for 10 Euros.
If going for lunch, get there early (1.30pm) as after 2, the restaurant may be very busy. Atlanta restaurant is a posh restaurant located at Gran Via 63. However, this tip is about its sister cafe.
This cafe, on Plaza Campuzano has tables out all year (under an awning) so is convenient to sit out on. These seats can be very popular at times, particularly with the people with prams (like us!)
