This pintxo bar, just by the Diputacion is located on a corner of two paved streets and in summer has tables outside. They do a nice range of pintxos.
In my opinion not as good as those in nearby La Viña but still good. Worth a visit. Better, go to both and compare. They are very different bars in style

Txakurtto Taberna is a typical bar in the Casco Viejo. It offers a standard range of pintxos and drinks in a Basque environment.
Visit it as one of several along the "7 streets", but not worth spending all night in the bar.

Metro Moyua is centrally located on Gran Via, next to Plaza Moyua. It is a largish bar and restaurant catering mainly for the business trade.
It opens long hours so can be convenient.
Favorite Dish: Local foods are good, including the Solomillo

Atlanta restaurant is a posh restaurant located at Gran Via 63. However, this tip is about its sister cafe.
This cafe, on Plaza Campuzano has tables out all year (under an awning) so is convenient to sit out on. These seats can be very popular at times, particularly with the people with prams (like us!)
The cafe also does menus del dia

A smart chinese restaurant in the centre of the city.
This restaurant has a set menu (Menu del Dia) at lunchtime for 10 Euros.
If going for lunch, get there early (1.30pm) as after 2, the restaurant may be very busy.

Bar Pedro specialises in raciones on seafood.
Sunday mornings (after 11) is the time to visit, with lobster, prawns (all sizes), crabs, winkles, and other shellfish available to eat.
The done think is to stand in the street outside gossiping, while drinking a martini and polishing off a plate of kiskillas (baby prawns).

This bar's great recommendation is its location, sited as it is on the riverfront between the Guggenheim and the Euskalduna. It offers the standard range of drinks.
The cafe is in effect a terrace of tables (covered) where one can sit and watch the world and the river go by.
At present the cafe is only open on summer weekends.

At the Guggeheim you've got a real good, real busy and real expensive restaurant for which you have to make a reservation ages in advance, but....
You also got the cafetaria snake at the first floor. They got delicious pintxos and sandwiches and it very stylish decorated.

This restaurant, located close to plaza indautxu, is comfortable and (for Bilbao) spacious. This is important when you have a young family!
The restaurant service is friendly and helpful, and has a range of set menus. E.g. A Saturday menu especial (3 courses with ine) at 18 Euros, a weekday menu at about 9 Euro.
The dining room (comedor) is located (like many in Bilbao) through the back of the bar area.
Favorite Dish: The fish is usually very good
