The Santa Maria de los Reyes incorporates many different styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance. And although the 17th century reredos is as good an example of Spanish Baroque as any, its claim to fame is the Gothic portal, which is in an exceptional state of preservation.
The only way to visit the church is with a guided tour. The times are signposted at the door of the church (or at the Turismo). The tours are in Spanish only. Sometimes a leaflet with an English translation is handed out.

This portal is a highlight of Gothic art. Its statues have been perfectly preserved, because a portico was built in the 17th century. The statues were repainted when the portico was built and never altered since. A polychrome portal like this is extremely rare, there are only a few left in the world.
In the middle a statue of Santa Maria de los Reyes and above it in the tympanum scenes from the life of Mary. To the left and right of the entrance twelve life-like statues of the apostles. Notice the many-headed devil, crushed under St. Bartholomew's feet. In the far right corner two statues of a king and queen (reyes) who gave the church its name.
