A little old town with outstanding restaurants!

by MAUIRADISE

You can visit Getaria for a lunch break. There are quite a few good restaurants plus it is a quaint, street-cobblestoned little town by the ocean. You can watch, smell the aroma or eat different kinds of fish, seafood and meat from the outdoor grillers.

Drive out the cities

by YsndHalf

Visiting cities like Bilbao or San Sebastian is excellent and really worth it. But the best thing you can do in the Basque Country is to rent a car and drive outside the cities. You'll experience how lovely is that country! Some examples: San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Hodarribia, Lekeitio, Elantxobe, Deba... The coast is specially beautiful!

Costa Vasca

by timtregenza

The Basque coast offers a wonderful range of scenery reminiscent of Cornwall. The fishing ports contain many interesting sites and some excellent bars and restaurants. A car is really needed to explore the area, although towns such as Mundaka and Bermeo are available by train and others by Bus (Bizkaibus).

Balmaseda

by timtregenza

This small town was of great importance in the middle ages, being on the route from Castille to Vizcaya. This explains the architecture. It fell into decline as other traffic routes opened up, only to perk up once again with the coming of the railroad.Balmaseda is most famous for its annual good friday passion play.Balmaseda is best visited by FEVE train out of Bilbao (50 minutes, about 4 Euro for a return ticket).

Foret d'Iraty - France

Or Iraty forest, is the biggest beech forest in Western Europe and it’s located on the French side of the Basque Pyrenees. This forest used to be a part of an ancient timber concession for local ship constructors. Now it is paradise for nature lovers, ornithologists and hikers. At the entrance of the park you’ll find several marked hiking trails, who will lead you through the forest.WATCH OUT, because sometimes there’re sings missing, so bring your compass or GPS along.

Fisher village

by Peret

There's a lot of village in Basque coast that were builded for fisher. Now, they are one of places where basque culture keep stronguer its authenticity. The little streets are very lovely, often builded within a lot of stairs due to the mountains in the country finish in the sea.
